chewy Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Just saw yesterday Afghanistan get beaten by UAE in qualifiers. Every ICC event, we get these teams stuffed with ringers from India, Pakistan, Australia and SA. And once in a while they cause an upset and we go gaga how an underdog overcame the odds? really? many of ringers of have first class cricket experience from their native countries, some even have played for Test nations (Dirk Nannes anyone?).And in the case of UAE and Oman, the players aren't even citizens of these countries.ICC should place some strict rules for participation, which only allows teams with citizens by birth/naturalization.Or else we will never see teams like Fiji, Nepal, Papau New Guniea, Namibia develop further from U19.
zen Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 As long as a team selects players who are citizens (whether natural or adapted), it should be allowed It appears as if UAE and Oman have fielded players who are not citizens (may be permanent residents) and that should not be allowed
kruiser Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Feel Bad for AFG who has native players in the team losing out to UAE mercenaries for the W20 berth
sscomp32 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Feel Bad for AFG who has native players in the team losing out to UAE mercenaries for the W20 berthIts for asia cup dont worry. AFG are in t20 wc but UAE not. AFG will play in the better tournament. kruiser 1
Zero_Unit Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Honestly, I would have loved to see NEPAL instead of UAE/OMAN. It's not like they are even spreading the game locally. Nepal is cray cray for cricket and should be nurtured further! nevada and sscomp32 2
chewy Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 Sad to see Afghanistan not make it, and playing against three teams full of ringers, not the way to spread the game
CoverDrive Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Yes this feels bad in some way. Rich countries like UAE can just hire mercenaries while Afghanistan, Nepal will forever be struggling sscomp32 1
kruiser Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 Its for asia cup dont worry. AFG are in t20 wc but UAE not. AFG will play in the better tournament. oh, good thank you! i did not realize that.. who cares about the asia cup anyways!
chewy Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 29/2/16 Pakistan v UAE ("Pakistan B")Good reason today why team full stringers will never be competitive compared team of natives or naturalized players.
Singh bling Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Yes this feels bad in some way. Rich countries like UAE can just hire mercenaries while Afghanistan, Nepal will forever be strugglingI am sure even if Afghanistan becomes a decent team then hardly any team will visit them
