Pride vs. Envy: A Virat Kohli Appreciation!

I had been watching cricket for the last 32 years and I have seen my fair share of brilliance and brittleness over the year. BUT this knock of Virat is special and ranks right up there with the epic Sharjah innings of Sachin, the Natwest jailbreak by Yuvi and Kaif, Kanetkar's four in Dhaka, Bajji's hits in SL, Chinnaswamy finish by Srinath and Kumble, Hobart massacre by Kohli, Dhoni vs. Sl in WI etc (top of my mind, all chasing, a bit emotional and can't recollect all). But none of them had the same stakes in chasing as a Home ICC WT20 knock-out match.

I am in joyful tears now after the match. I have one thought to share with ICF:  How lucky we Indian Cricket Fans are to won the batting lottery of the universe for the last two generations: To have Sachin and Kohli to play for us! 

As a true cricket lover, I would have always admired Kohli but with him playing in the Indian jersey, I am proud of being an Indian, I am happy, relieved and most importantly, I don't envy him or any other team for having him. And that my friends is the magic of fandom. It is what football fams of Barca and Argentina feel. It is a unique feeling that fills you heart with joy :-)

I was thinking the same thing. How lucky we are to have him. BTW, it is sometimes true that inspirations help. Imran caused some real fast bowling greats. I am hoping Kohli too will help generate the next ATG bat for us

Dhoni as captain has phenomenal limited overs match instincts. Yuvi getting a wicket off his first ball in the tournament in the 4th match is really something :-) Dhoni as a finisher and keeper against spinners is an ATG.

For the # of Tests and # of ODIs that Kohli has played, who has the highest average among Indian batsmen? (at this # of Tests and # of ODIs)

Just wondering, how good is Kohli against quality spinners? I can't remember immediately any instance where he dominated Spin attack in a spin favoring pitches. If anything, this Nagpur NZ match, SL test series (where he averaged 38), recent spin laden SA test series (avg 33) asks more question..
