India Batting Depth: Ashwin batting at no.6/Poor Team selection?

Ashwin's batting contribution is crucial if we were to persist with a 5 bowler strategy.
His promotion in the batting order suggests that the team is cognizant of this and wants to put more responsibility on him.
Definitely a step in the right direction and glad that we haven't played bits and pieces players like Binny.

This is Kumble effect. Kumble himself always took his batting seriously and Kumble was nowhere as talented as Ashwin when it comes to batting. Kumble certainly sees a good test batsman in Ashwin.

If we cannot go with 5 proper bowlers against this West Indies team, and need some batting cushion (like 7 batsmen/all rounders we used to stack our team with previously) we should stop playing cricket

ashwin batting well is a good sign, but would like to see a fast bowling all rounder.

Ashwin is quality and probably would make one of the best #6 in the world compared to the current crop of players in other teams. Lay down a comparison, and Ashwin is more than just a 'handy' batsman.
