Crookbond Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 The dip seems to be only in Rajasthan and there does not seem to be a verifiable source for it. Regardless, the overall idea of local industry promotion is a good one but we need to keep in mind the opportunity costs. Trade is important and only benefits us.

Texan Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Trade boycott is unrealistic unless our local industry can produce the same quality goods at an even lower price. Even in the US, where there is a similar sentiment for not using Chinese goods (the audience that Trump appeals most to), the US-China trade deficit was more than $350 billion last year and the gap keeps widening. The only solution is to boost our manufacturing and compete. For that, we need some political stability and unanimous decision making. Because we are a democracy, often economic legislation gets trapped in petty politics. That is the advantage China has over us.

We tried to get some groups labelled as terrorist organizations and Pakistan as a supporter of terror, but China blocked it, saying they see no evidence. Many citizens got upset, and on Whats-App groups a fake letter with a fake signature by the PM was being spread around promoting a boycott of Chinese goods. There's a question about how much effect it is having, but judging by the Chinese official media reaction, it seems to at least have hurt them.
