fineleg Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 (edited) What are your predictions for the squad of 16/17 (Eng squad). Some commentary I read: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/blog/2016/sep/03/england-cricket-winter-tour-bangladesh-india-selectors Who are their BEST batsmen? - Joe Root - Cook - Bairstow (very competitive?) their all rounders? Woakes? Ben Stokes? Moen Ali? Spin options? Moen Ali, Adil Rashid, who else?? Edited October 11, 2016 by fineleg G_B_ 1
tweaker Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Cook Hales Vince Root Ballance Bairstov Butler Woakes Stokes Moen Ali Rashid Anderson Broad Ball Plunkett express bowling 1
G_B_ Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Bairstow will be suspect as keep in India I feel. He is not comfortable as a keeper v spinners who need to bowl long spells in India. There are also questionmarks on his ability to handle spin with the bat. Feel Matt Prior was better last time England toured than Bairstow. There are also issues with Rashid. While he does have wicket taking balls he also has this ability to churn out juicy full tosses. Last tour Pansesar n Swann did not allow Indian stroke makers the freedom to attack. I think Ali will be really handy for England with bat and ball. He has the ability to keep it tight and also bat well. Stokes hmm not sure once again he will be a hit tweaker and sandeep 2

Ankit_sharma03 Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) Ballance n stokes wud be ashwin's bunny, specially ballance. Our bowlers shud make sure hales dont geta start Moeen might surprise with the bat as he wont have fear of bouncers on such pitches. Jadeja would be a pain for Bairstrow and if he struggles with his keeping here it wont help him Ashwin witll target cook n root, big player wants to targets other big players Edited October 12, 2016 by Ankit_sharma03 tweaker 1

Iconoclast Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Looking forward to see what young Haseeb Hameed can do in. He's been breaking all sorts of records in the counties and could replace Hales as Cooks partner. tweaker 1
YCCC Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 Hameed looks very promising but I wonder if a year's county cricket is enough to really prove his credentials as a Test player. Jennings at Durham would be my pick. Talking of Durham, if you haven't heard about it, go and read about the sad case of Durham CCC and the way they have been stitched up and horrendously punished by the ECB.

YCCC Posted October 12, 2016 Posted October 12, 2016 And no more Tests for them. All for accepting a bail out package from the ECB, who persuaded them to take their offer instead of a rival bid from a private consortium. The whole thing only came about when Hampshire, who were relegated after the deciding game against Durham, complained about Durham getting help from the governing body.
