Austin 3:!6 Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) Not sure who is the think tank behind it but we will be going to champions trophy with no proper match practice. These 5 matches against Kiwis and 3 against Poms will be the only ODIs we will play before the CT. Now few questions: 1) Not sure why are we playing 3 TOIs against England? Surely there could have been 5 match ODI series. 2) What is the point of playing a test match against Bangla? It will finish in 3 days anyway. We easily could have played 3 match ODI series instead of this solitary test. Ofcourse we will play IPL before heading to Eng but will that be enough practice for our boys to perform in Champions Trophy? sandeep Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 Biggest issue here is we have a hole at #6 in our batting lineup - this is a critical spot that decides games more often than not. Dhoni can no longer get it done against top-flight bowling at that spot. He can do the #5 job, and the team needs a quality hitting bat badly. 8 ODIs are not enough to identify and groom a new guy for this pressure-spot. The fact that we are hoping Suresh Raina still has life in his old legs to do this job signals the dire straits. Don't get me wrong, I love Raina, he's been an amazing team-first guy and a quality lower order bat for us for years. But we need to find the next Raina, and soon. Is there any window for a short ODI series before the Champions trophy or before IPL? express bowling and Ankit_sharma03 2
-Robin- Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 India should invite Bangla desh for a bilateral series before CT. It will help in prepration as well we can thrash them and shut them.
Austin 3:!6 Posted December 19, 2016 Author Posted December 19, 2016 So now English team goes back to celebrate Christmas and we have 3 weeks vacant window before ODIs resume from 15th Jan. Considering the fact that we will only play 3 more ODIs before Champions trophy, shall we use this window to invite some team for a short ODI series? sarchasm and tweaker 1 1
tweaker Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Players as well as fans also need some space after back to back tests. sarchasm and express bowling 2
express bowling Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 Karun Nair will perhaps be called for our ODI team too....seeing how fast he scored today in a test match....and deserving so. Where will he fit in this line-up ? Rahul Dhawan ( Rohit injured ) Kohli Dhoni Nair Pant will it happen this way or does this shut the doors for the time being on Pant's debut ? Can Nair be used as a part-time bowler ? tweaker 1
Austin 3:!6 Posted December 19, 2016 Author Posted December 19, 2016 No...Nair have to wait. My ODI XI: Rohit Sharma Shikhar Dhawan Virat Kohli MS Dhoni Lokesh Rahul Suresh Raina Hardik Pandya Ravi Jadeja Ravi Ashwin Bhuvi Kumar Mohammed Shami

Anyway, both Rohit and Dhawan are slow starters although both are excellent ODI players. If Raina were being considered, he would have played against NZ. Good chance of Ashwin and Shami being rested again. Can't drop Bumrah in LOIs. Mosher 1

Raina is must in LOIs...gun player...hope they considers him
Malcolm Merlyn Posted December 19, 2016 Posted December 19, 2016 And with Supreme Court destroying Indian cricket we have no hope either. GoldenSun 1

Raina was part of the squad for Nzl Odis but fell ill and hence didn't play the series .

You are right, I forgot But, playing someone who has not played any meaningful international cricket in a long time, would be risky in a big tournament like the Champion's trophy....he will get just 3 ODIs to get practice. The same logic applies to Pant too but his superlative form and SR may call for an exception.

One thing I never really don't like though ,picking players into ODI team based on Ranji form and vice versa . So not 100% sure of picking Pant in ODI team . Also think most of them will have IPL to prepare for CT and that middle order slot will go to whoever performs the best in IPL I think

By a similar logic though, IPL performers should not be picked for ODIs under normal circumstances. There have been may T20 top performers who have sucked in ODIs and vice versa.

There are enough injuries and even kohli deserves a series off This team needs to learn how to win without Kohli. Rest Kohli and Given Nair a chance. My team for ENg Odi series 1. Dhawan 2. Rahul 3. Nair 4. Dhoni 5. Hooda 6. Raina/Jadhav/ Yuvraj (JAdhav isnt a long run infact not even a short term horse) 7. Axar/ JAdeja/ Pandya (Whats the Status on Axar n Pandya injuries, if both are injured Sir should Play this series as its been long since he has played in ODi's) 8. Kuldeep/ Yuzi (Dump that fattie Mishra once n for all) 9. Bhuvi 10. Bumrah 11. Rajpoot/Aniket/Sanghwan/ Nathu/ Shardul ( its the best time to try a youngster for ODi bowling lineup. My personal choice wud be Sanghawan or Rajpoot for ODI's) 12. Jayant Yadav 13. Pant Rest can be above mention options

Agreed also, Pant looks a special talent. Any player who can add to the side and performs wherever he gets a chance should be given a go. Not every time we have to follow the process that he has to grind years in domestic n India-A express bowling 1

Malcolm Merlyn Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 We need to organise a few more ODIs.
