Indian bowlers' inability to check runs flow

Even if wickets are not falling they have simply not able to stop runs.

Ashwin and Mishra have given away 192 runs in 52 overs at ER of 3.7

This is just poor stuff. I think England scored 30-40 runs extra which gave them huge advantage of day 1. Bowlers were missing lengths and bowling full tosses yesterday.

Ideally if ball isn't turning much they should try to maintain tight line and length and make sure that opposition doesn't run away with the score.

270-280-4 would have have been much better than 311-4 on day 1.

Our bowlers loose hope very easily espically Yadav & Mishra

Yadav was good in first hour yesterday. He struggled with line more than the length and it seemed that was due to his own lack of control rather than anything else.

If you drop so ...so...so  many catches  off fast-bowlers then it is difficult to blame them.

This pitch has been a batting beauty from the 2nd session first day till the 1st session 2nd day and that also contributes to high run rates if catches are dropped.

Still haven't seen spinners bowling so many full tosses consistently. They need to learn how to bowl when things are getting difficult for them.

Bhajji had same problem in tests. Kumble was good at maintaining pressure even when wickets were not falling.

Shami has been best bowler so far.

Umesh created chances and was good in patches.

Jadeja was bowled tight line and length yesterday. Mishra and Ashwin have been rubbish since lunch on day 1

Ashwin needs to learn to spin the ball a bit more on flatter tracks and get a bit more zip off such tracks.  He needs to put more revs on the ball.   He is not a quick darter like Jadeja  and bowls much slower.  If there is no spin and  zip off the deck then such bowlers find it very difficult to contain runs.

Kumble found it easier to contain runs because he too was a brisk spinner like Jadeja.

Interesting

Does that mean Jadeja can be a better bet on pattas overseas? If there is any turn we can play Ashwin.Best suited for attacking role only

I think a wrist spinner, with ability to turn the ball both ways,  will be best ion overseas pattas.

Can Kuldeep  Yadav fit this role ?

Hopefully

Mishra and Karn Sharma have proved futile.

Chahal can also be tried

wrist spinners will always be expensive. They do lack control. Warne was an exception and Kumble wasnt much of a wrist spinner.

True. That's why Ashwin's bowling was even more disappointing. Yadav, Shami and Jadeja all three have bowled better than him on this track.

Combination of Kohli attacking too much and Spinners bowling a tad too short and half volleys along with good attacking play by England. More important to note here was the attacking way England batted, that is what surprised our spinners who did not really face any challenge against New Zealand batsmen. I think they will only get better after few innings and adjust to the English bats. Not a rocket science here. First test is always going to be our worst or their worst. Our worst has happened, I think our spinners will pick it up from here and will give less lose balls than the amount of times given in this innings.

They also did not have to bowl on a pitch like this against NZ.

Exactly. Won't be surprised if we get similar pitch in next test as that's another venue where India will be playing a test match for the first time.
