Feels good to win test matches against top teams on pitches which are not raging turners

Yadav was better than Shami in the first innings. Shami was a bit stiff in first innings.

Shami knows how to take wickets nowadays in tests  after his return from injury  ( even if he is stiff ) ........Umesh does not

That is the difference.

i was talking about just this test. Yadav still does not execute his bowling well. Shami does do that. Yadav can be predictable. If he bowls bouncers, he keeps bowling bouncers. If bowls full then keeps bowling full. Doesn't mix lengths well.

But see the results of even this test....both bowled well but Shami has 5 wickets and Umesh has 2.  Umesh needs to quickly pickup the sequence of deliveries to bowl to pick up wickets regularly.

agree. Actually, it is disappointing to see such a slow growth from Yadav.

Yadav is a swing bowler his length is diff to Shami Also he floats the ball while shami hits the pitch diff types if bowlers they are.First test there was some swing he bowled well and should have got a 5 fer.Shami to me uses the seam pretty well so he is in the game in most pitches.Thing is they compliment each other Yadav with new ball bowls outswinger and reverses in while shami does opp.

In India, reverse swing bowlers with pace in the air, like Umesh Yadav, have the most advantage among pacers.  He needs to quickly learn the sequence of deliveries to bowl, to take wickets consistently.

Anyway...this thread is not about Umesh...so lets discuss it elsewhere.

What is significant is that Yadav has improved on his batting. You can see he has ability and can slog but now he is trying to build an inning. This is helping him as if he does not get wickets then they won't directly just get in Bhuvi as a much better batsman.

Well, Yadav does have a fairly big FC 100 - can bat better than a standard No. 11 IMO.

We have played 8 of the last 9 home tests on tracks which were not raging turners.... and won 7 of those 8 test matches and drew the other one.

Why change the formula which was working so well    ?

Most of our batsmen these days are that good against spin and are better at playing pace and bounce.... the innocuous foreign pacers get teeth on  raging turners.... we should go back to the tracks we played on against England and NZ.

p.s-  It has to be said that this pitch has not behaved as viciously as our batting collapse would make it look. We have become really poor against spin.

Overconfidence not pitch to blame.
