Not sure how much FC experience KL Rahul, Mukund, heck even Murali Vijay's debut was a quick rise as well. There have been plenty of examples of meteoric risers to the Indian Team. But not eveyone is worthy of that, and for some players it can harm their long-term prospects too - Parthiv's a classic example. At an age of 18 where he should have been working on improving his 'keeping at FC level, and building instinct and muscle memory - he was added to the team, and then he couldn't make the required improvements at that level and ended up regressing. Its fate that he has gotten a few chances since then. You never know, he could have matured and improved as a 'keeper and could have turned into a longterm solution given his proven batting skills. In any case, that's all history. And Parthiv's regression allowed a legend like MS Dhoni to come into the team, so all's well that ends well. Yes, but many of the names barring Rahul were selected a fairly long time ago. KL Rahul did have 3-4 seasons under his belt, although only 1-2 had been outstanding. I have a feeling that selectorial policy in India is inclining more towards conservatism - in Dada's time, people like Yuvi, Zak, etc. were picked when they were fairly raw. Now, I think that the selectors want players to have 2-3 top seasons in FC, and then play Duleep, Iranis, and then several A tours, etc. prior to selection. Although this is the logical and commendable order, I feel that some exceptions should be considered.

In those days, we didn't really have the 'A' tour option to evaluate a player before handing a debut. These days India has a lot of 'A' tours and also tours to places like Zimbabwe, which are used to audition new players. Yes, things are a bit conservative - but fans will always be a bit more impatient and desirous of seeing "new" faces, regardless of whether it would be a right call or not. Don't misunderstand - I don't always agree with the selectors. I have been posting for 2 years now about the crying need to update our ODI team and tactics - selectors have definitely made mistakes on that front. But in the case of Parthiv in this series - especially at the juncture of 1-0 scoreline with 3 tests left to play, and a captain who wants to play only 5 specialist batsmen - I agree with the selectors.

Well, we have been lucky that his very shoddy keeping didn't prove to be disastrous (looking at him yesterday, I am almost reminded of K.Akmal). And yes, our ODI batting policy is very outdated. T20s, even more so. Conservatism in Test selection has also hurt India - our long run of overseas losses was partly down to selection as well.
chewy Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Parthiv's keeping has been no worse than Saha, Saha has dropped some outright lollipops once too often But I hope Saha gets back into the Aus series, hasn't done anything wrong, has been ok with the bat and at least has a 100 in Tests in his early days cant blame selectors, have done satisfactory in this series, Jayant Yadav has been a gem, they got what they wanted from Papu in last Test match as stop gap selection, dropped Gambhir sandeep 1

BeautifulGame Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Anyway ,Chennai test looks like it will be washed out completely by rain without much play

Jadeja + Yadav + Kuldeep/Chahal/? would be interesting to try out and probably enough to win. But since its Chennai, that's unlikely to happen. We need to show these poms no mercy and go all out for 4-0. There is a decent break between LOIs and tests. I'm not too worried about ash and jadejas workload as there'll be plenty of time for recovery. Edited December 12, 2016 by mancalledsting

More for auditioning a new talent. But Its unlikely to happen anyway. mancalledsting and tweaker 2

Sachinism Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Shami seems extremely injury prone. Also at times its like he's being rushed back into the fold. Could do with better injury management otherwise a promising career is going to fade away

Some are luckier than others. Thats about it. express bowling 1

Unleashed Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 I refuse to believe that there isn't a better wicketkeeper batsman combo than Parthiv Patel right now. He was absolutely dreadful behind wickets in the test series. The pitches were tough for the Wicketkeepers granted, but if you're an international wicket keeper then you should be catching, collecting everything cleanly for the 95% of the time.

Yeah I have a personal grudge against him that's why I hate him. Is that why most said the same in match thread as well? We all hate him lol If u didn't see his fumblings and struggles to take the ball cleanly then u were watching a different test match to most of us
Soorma_Bhopali Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Parthiv was goal-keeping ..more focussed on collecting the ball after one-tip and preventing byes
