New Stats

Would it be beneficial for cricket to introduce fielding % as a new stats. Like in baseball if a fielder makes an error it do not go against the pitcher and it does not credit the hit for the hitter, rather it goes against the fielder who made the error. In cricket batters face more balls than in baseball, so instead of including miss fields it would be cool only to include dropped catches and obvious run outs.

I would like to see a Cricket equivalent to UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating) in baseball. It's much harder to do for Cricket however as there are no set fielding positions except keeper.

I thought WASP was a fun thing to have (though it is inaccurate a lot of times).. They still use it in ODIs played in NZ.. but not anywhere else I believe

Channel 9 discussing on the new stats being introduced for the fielding.

 

They were showing how it has been divided into three categories - Grade 1,2 and 3.

 

If you drop a high catch like Warner did last game, it is grade -2 drop catch. If you drop a simple one at slip like how Smith did of Asad Shafiq, that is considered Grade -1 catch which was dropped.

 

If you take a diving one hand catch or drop it, it will be considered grade - 3 catch.

Smith is very low as he has dropped few in the last game and before. He took some amazing catches in ODI's against NZ so that adjusted his score.

Would be great if they include the number of runs the batsman scores after he is dropped

^I guess that could be their eventual plan, which means that the average can drop further as the game goes on andnolayer is still batting, but don't know how they are going to do this. Also don't know if they are going to combine and mix it up with ODI's. May be have seperate for ODI's and test. Also someone like Matthew Wade shouldn't have same grades as he takes the catch as a keeper who wears gloves, so they should try to put different grades for a keeper.
