Anyone actually seen Rishabh Pant keep?

Frankly, if  PP is being considered as keeper for his batting, we might as well play Pant who will be a better batsman and can't do any worse as a keeper.  He will get practice of keeping to spinners too.

Why you keep bringing Dhoni. Dhoni is done. He is history from last 2 years in our test cricket and that is why he quit because he knew he wasn't good enough. Stop Bringing Dhoni every time. He is still the best wicket keeper batsman in ODI'S, so unless he does not feel like keeping, he will most likely keep. But Saha doing better than Dhoni doesn't really do Saha any favor.

 

Saha has been good, but if there is an opening, then we have to try right now.

He has the highest dismissal behind stumps for last 2 seasons. He has played many behind the wall innings for Mumbai.

Tare should have been in contention ahead of Parthiv, as Naman was injured when Saha got injured.

End of day thankfully coach is atg spinner in Kumble . He knows importance of glove work in tests . We would have won a test series in oz against Waugh and co if not for. Poor glove work (pp).

peope waffle on about needing 20 wickets to win test . Play 5 bowlers as need wickets . Play aggressive to win as need 20 wickets . Yet in same breath want substandard keeper who misses chances just so get a few more runs .

Point is dhoni got massive rope dispite being uselsss overseas with bat . Saha has one or 2 dodgy games at home and out .

Saha kept well to spinner in the NZ series.

 

He had a bad game and an average game against England as a keeper and that could well have been due to the injury he was carrying....the one which sidelined him in the the next match.

Kumble has said recently that Saha is still our main keeper and is out only due to injury

Time has changed, we need to try players who are scoring more runs now and also keeping good. If Pant can score more, we will keep him as keeper as long as he can keep good. If not, Saha comes back or someone else replaces Pant.

 

We are gong to be playing 2 pacers and 3 spinners for a while. That is 5 bowlers, even though 3 spinners all can bat, but still not every time that will work, and hence we need to make sure that our wicket keeper is scoring consistently. If Pant as keeper/bat can offer something better than Saha, than we shouldn't be hesitant to take it.

 

There is a reason why Ashwin started coming ahead of Saha. Kohli wants more consistency. If Pant is consistent and can keep well, Saha goes out.

Crying shame pant not keeper now for odis and t20s. Get him doing that role would accelerate his improvement to be test keeper

I actually like Saha and hence started the thread. I honestly feel Pant can replace other players, like Rohit Sharma in particular, since Rohit is not doing anything int est for us barring few knocks against New Zealand. He got his chance everywhere around the world, but did not do much. We need to try other guys when we go overseas and play that extra batsman. Hence Rohit should make way for Pant regardless at least in the squad.

Parthivs Patel an absolute no no as a keeper horrible he cost us 12 wkts, and that could be games n series so his runs do the count at all, it's like a bowler giving away 100 runs and then scoring 20,Saha is good n way better then Dhoni in test and anyone we had before, his keeping is good and his batting is underrated, he has a very good attitude as well as is a first-hand guy, also team , capt, coach rate him so Test we have Saha, also his injuries are not fitness related n can happen to anyone.

Def we need to get in Pant, Ishan for ODi n t20 n let them gain experience n contribute grow, for that alone n because he cannot bat well anymore for last 4 years Dhoni needs to go.

For both Tare and Nayyar, their time has come and gone by now.  Tare reminds of Sameer Dighe's ilk, good cricket head, fighter's temperament, but not quite next-level talent.  Can be called upon for stop-gap duties, but doesn't come across as a long-term solution.

 

Tare's best bet is to have an impressive season in Syed Mushtaq and IPL, and maybe snag a spot as a reward in a Zimbabwe or WI tour, when majority of team is rested.  But now, even that is far fetched, because selectors will justifiably want to have a look at the likes of Panth, Kishan and Samson.

After his performance in last 2 ranji season,he should be in the reconning.

We can't just write off somebody who has a record dismissal in consecutive ranji season.

Because as a keeper - Tare or Gautam - are more mature and advanced. As a batsman, they are less exciting than Pant. So, for a year or two stop gap, we are looking at Tare (discussing) as an alternative to Saha (For Tests).
