You have Lokesh as back up to MSD incase of injury. Either play the kid or keep him out of the squad. I do hope now he does not play in the final T20 (mostly wont anyways). Needs a full series. I could understand maybe if there was nothing else going on and he is sat at home. Being used to the first team ethic etc is a good experience. But not when there is a T20 domestic tournament on.

 

Selectors really need to get with Kumble and Kohli and have some communication. This is poor planning.  How do you think Pant feels? Kohli of all people comes to open before he get a chance. 

 

The only excuse I can think of is that based on the nets kumble and co are not impressed with him but are putting in the efforts on him behind the scenes. But even that excuse is clutching at straws.

 

For the record I personally am not a Pant fan club member. I think he is way too hyped on ICF. His domestic T20 record is strictly ok. But give the kid a fair chance.

Pant isnt selected because if he is selected he will most likely out perform Raina/Yuvi/Dhoni and they will have to drop one of them to include Pant and they dont want to do that.

His Ranji record is exceptional and his T20 record is average at best.

So no that's not accurate.

Sehwag was similar great test stats poor one day stats. Doesn't mean high strike means you are successful in that format. Getting 300 is not a small feat even though it was patta.

Look ranji stats good . But my instinctive feel is his power and hitting will mean t20 great introduction for him
