Give Kohli, the captain some time to get his combination right

People are jumping too early after his selection in the first twenty20.. It has been just one twenty20 game. He is trying to make sure that he brings the best out of all and tries to give every one a fair chance who have been picked and use them to their potential.

Required Time

Kohli needs at least 2-4 months and few series to get his combination right and to confirm his 10-11 go to players which should feature regularly in any 15 player LOI squad. Currently we aren't even sure of 3-4 batsman who are must at certain positions since we have been so crap in LOI cricket fom a while. We do not know where the future lazy prospects like Pandey and Rahul need to play or to be played. Weather Yuvi needs to be played only in 50 and not in 2020. Kohli is trying to figure out all our spin combinations and also in between all this he gives two new spinners a chance - Chahal and Rasool. Kohli also doesn't know when his other regular opener Rohit will return and amidst  all this he is still trying to make sure the fast bowlers like Shami remain fit and do not get injured for important series like the one coming up against Australia.

Important

Knowing Kohli, we all know that he sets high standards and sooner or later, if any player is not able to play according to the way he wants him to play in the team, he will be out of the team.

Regarding youngsters

Kohli has rightly kept Dhoni in the team as he is the only senior player in LOI cricket who can be trusted apart from himself in the battting. We can continue the transition without keeping Dhoni out and trying youngsters like Pant, Hooda etc for players like Yuvraj. Rotate the other non performing youngsters but do not drop them. Like Pandey and Rahul have failed consecutively, rotate them a game with players like Pant and Hooda while one of them playing regularly over someone like Yuvraj in twenty20s.

The right combination

It is the one which has few seniors in it. Kohli is a senior also and so is Rohit Sharma and Dhoni being the most senior.

Ideally Kohli, Rohit and Dhoni should play regularly for us for next 3-4 series and youngsters must play along side them, so we have a proper transition. Dhoni down the order is a must with 1 young player at top with Rohit while others in the middle to lower order with Kohli and Dhoni.

The Crux

Kohli is selecting youngsters and hence Pant is in the squad. He is still apprehensive of playing them all together as he is still not confident as he is perhaps not ready to play 3 youngsters together one of which has been someone like Rahul, who is still a future prospect but not scoring regularly the way Kohli wants him to score. Yet he wants tonplay him as he does not want Rahul to face the same situation what he faced when he was dropped unfairly when he was a youngster himself. Hence the reason why Kohli perhaps opted to not play Pant today.

However, sooner or later, Kohli will get it right. He will have Pant in and give him his run. Hopefully starting next game.

Kohli will surely get his combinations right soon as he is a better thinker than us. He knows what he is doing. Just give him probably 2-4 series to get the core combination. It is trial and error stuff and we have to bare this for now.

Dont worry man. Most of the reactions here are still agenda driven. People will continue to show love or hate towards player or decisions just to settle scores with others and feel happy and gloat over their victory on ICF. :giggle:

And regarding Kohli, every true fan is mostly happy with the progress the team has made recently. I do feel we are going to win a lot in coming future as well. Lot of people are groomed and settled in the XI over the years and they have been coming good in the Test & ODIs. T20 has always been up and down and will continue to remain so. We have tried and tested plenty of players in T20 , there is no fixed formula for it yet. Changes will happen now and in an years time we will again crave for changes in that format. Thats just the nature of T20s.

Yeah, funny to see reactions after just one twenty20. I can understand about not playing Pant and playing Yuvi but rest well, as aformentioned is just part of giving everyone a chance.

Yesterday, if players like Pandey and Rahul, two young prospects had batted decently, we could have reached 175+. Their failure along with poor stuff from Yuvi is why we sucked in the first game.

Pandey even though playing in the wrong format, wasn't supposed to hit from the first ball. Just some decent batting with Dhoni would have helped us reached a good score.

But I am not going to be harsh on them. I will still play Rahul and keep Pandey out dor the next game and bring in Pant. Fine for them to fail as long as they are getting chances and learning.

I am not worried about Kohli and his need for win will dominate his choices but selectors are the culprits who have no idea or planning, getting useless or failures in A Sides, t20s unit should be bound hopefuls not 35 year olds

Really loved the comment about enjoying this format from Virat yesterday.Don't think in this format just enjoy and play impulsively.Kohli will get enough time.It was funny yesterday some people were clamouring for Rohit as captain in this format.

Give him time to get the perfect combination, but combinations that are clearly and obviously  wrong -- there should be no time given to get those out of the system.

Kohli likes Dhoni, period.

So you have to live with it and everyone has to live with it. He knows that barring himself, there is no one he can trust to score more runs on regular basis - Yes no Yuvi, no Rahul, No Dhawan, No Pandey, No Pant or anyone but Dhoni only.

And I think Kohli is right too. Dhoni is not playing in the team because selectors want some old players, but Kohli too wants him. Whether twenty20 or ODI, we need Kohli and Dhoni in the team. Rest of the order can have young players. We are talking about as many as 4-5 slots for youngsters even if Dhoni and Kohli are playing every game.

Really do not understand then why people think that Dhoni is blocking youngsters when you have 3-4 other slots available to try the youngsters.

I think the test of Kohli will be what happens to Yuvraj should his performances dip. Will Virat drop him?

Its no secret Yuvraj enjoys a good personal relationship with Kohli.

Its the same with RCB/Karnataka players and Kohli and Kumble.

But I tend to agree that 1 T20 is not the be all end all to judge. The opening especially India have tried Rahul Dhawan Rahane (Rohit injured) and they have not worked under Kohli. In the end Kohli has come out to open himself.
