Deleted_User_1
This sorry team will win Ghanta. SA series is just the beginning. After this whitewash, we will get violated again in England and Australia. Are we playing NZ in NZ soon? More opportunities to get ripped open Oh well, in between these assaults we have I-Pee-L and meaningless home series against SL/Bangladesh/WI on home pattas where we can hold our head high, let the auss wounds heal and give our champion batsman false confidence that they can rule the world!! Straight Drive
Gautam Gambhir was better than Rahul imo. His innings in NZ was tremendous in adverse conditions. He batted for one and half day there and was largely responsible for the impossible draw. Also Gauti was good at converting his 50's to 100 which Rahul fails to convert his consistent 50's. Gauti faced a much stronger bowling atatcks. Now the same bowler are playing after 5 or 10 injuries and bowling to the current lot. it makes a huge difference. Steyn bowling then and Steyn bowling now. Philander then than now after injuries, Andersson bowling then and now, Siddle bowling then and now, Harris bowling then and now and so on. Secondly the fitness of Gauti was superior. He was never getting injured as frequently as Rahul. Link to comment

Straight Drive
The openers here are performing like minnow openers: Rahul is averaging 7, Dhawan is averaging 16, Vijay is averaging 17.25. With such 3 flop openers on this tour, it is impossible to put on match winning scores. Anything over 300 is tough. Link to comment
Gollum
If they stay world no 1 for 7 more months they will have surpassed the 2007-10 team as far as no 1 reign is concerned (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICC_Test_Championship). But if they win in Eng and draw in Aus later this year, they will be better in the eyes of most cricket followers too. Link to comment

If they do that, they will be in the middle of a 6 yr (atleast) run at the top spot. Link to comment

This bunch is very much capable of doing that. Indian cricket team should aspire to be the equivalent of Nadal, sweep all matches in Asia+WI and compete well in other 4 countries. We lost in SA, never mind. We can redeem ourselves as early as August this year. Link to comment
Gollum
This year will determine whether the current batch will better our golden generation of 2007-10 or not. I am optimistic that 5 years down the line we will fondly reminisce about this phase in Indian test cricket. I predict a win and a draw in Eng/Aus respectively which will extend our stay at the top. After that we shift back to India and we are close to unbeatable at home, so possibly we are in the middle of a 5-6 year run as the best team in the world, only GOAT WI and ATG Aussies can claim to have bettered this feat. We have already equaled that 2007-10 team in terms of months at no 1 (21 right now LINK) and even if we lose by a margin of 3 tests in Eng, we will cling on to top spot LINK...but we aren't losing the series for sure kuch bhi ho. Also perfect age/experience to guarantee success, next overseas tours won't have many of the current guys and will carry a futile combination of 'past it' oldies and 'yet to peak' newbies. Gollum
Many misfires from some of us on this thread. lol. Whenever a major player from that team was unavailable, they were vulnerable even at home. Here we are matching Aus in Aus despite losing half our first choice players.
