Pakistan can beat England if they pick 3 spinners

Recommended Posts

Its unlikely, but this is the only way they can do it. Amir, Junaid, and Hasan Ali are certainties, but on such a small, oddly shaped ground, one of those 3 will have a bad day. The straight boundaries are about 50 metres, batsmen can hit over the top without any risk.

they have to pick Shadab Khan, and go with the same lineup they had against South Africa. Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan and Hafeez should bowl most of those overs, bowl negatively and force their batsmen to hit sideways, towards the longer boundaries.

btw, pakistan actually beat england on this ground the last time they played: http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/913661.html

imad wasim bowled his 10 for just 33 runs, and they could have held england to less than 300 if they played an extra spinner. hope they learned from that mistake.

the more i think about it, the more this game looks like upset city. aren't england due a bad game?

Track for any game that England play will render spinners toothless.  Wrist spinners might be able to do a bit, but not much.

They should definitely play Shadab.  And bowl Hafeez and Malik.  I would drop Imad Wasim and play a batsman instead.  And do something drastic with that batting lineup.  Send that new bowler Faheem to slog a few if the ball is not moving around.  Play Sarfraz ahead of Hafeez - who shouldn't come in above #6 unless they are losing a bunch of wickets.   Hafeez kills their momentum, there is no way in jahannum I would let Hafeez and Azhar Ali bat at the same time in LOI cricket.  Ideally "MoHa" should be out of the squad, but he does offer a bit of bowling, and there aren't too many other options.

Fakhar Zaman

Azhar Ali

Faheem Ashraf (if Fakhar gets out first)

Shoaib Malik (if its past the 20th over)

Sarfraz

Haris Sohail

Hafeez

Shadab Khan

Amir

Hassan

Junaid

Yes, We won against them in ODI as well as t20 last year, Thanks to Hasan and Amir's death bowling restricting them to 300 odd when they were set to score 350+ , And then Shoaib Malik and Sarfraz made a big partnership while chasing.

Sarfraz is batting too low right now.

Perfect line up, I would replace Azhar with Haris Sohail.

Shadab shud definately come in.....

Dropping imad wasim can be tricky.....his is diff type of left arm spinner(darter watever) he can trouble their right hand batsman

Hafeez with his off spin might also be effective

Hafeez can be sent up to open .....opp doesnt have steyn

The only way they can beat england is to take wkts , that side cannot be restricted . Pak has to rely on their bowling to win only.....so get the best spin attack possible and hope tht pitch turns or slows down.

Does harris sohail bowl???

don't know about you guys, but I'm really hoping they beat england.

india-england would be a nice final, but the build-up surrounding a india-pakistan game would be fxcking amazing. imagine the insults, the trolling, the lame but massively entertaining 'takra' tv shows, the atmosphere at the game. its gonna be awesome.

india-england would be fun, but it won't clear the streets and become an event like india-pakistan would. whatever the result might be, people won't forget the game.

I don't really see what value Hafeez brings to the table. Can't bat and doesn't bowl much these days either. I would have someone else replace him and also get Shadab Khan in the team - maybe in place of Imad orAshraff,

Ashraf should play, We need someone who can smash it and play fluently. Only Ashraf, Fakhar and to some extent Malik are capable of doing this.

I will go with:

Haris

Fakhar

Babar

Sarfraz

Shoaib

Fahim

Imad

Shadab

Hasan

Amir

Junaid

2 changes for SF, Hafeez and Azhar sit out for Shadab and Haris.

Even though Pakistan won the game today and all the ex Pak cricketers came out of hiding ,  Pakistan's performance was quite horrendous.

When chasing 236 against  Sri Lankan bowling ( which is arguably the weakest in the CT with only 3 specialist bowlers)  , you struggle to get across the line , lose 7 wickets and  the fielding side drops 4 catches and misses 2 run outs ,  It makes you look even a lot more horrible.  Heck , let's say even if Ireland was chasing this total and SL had dropped 4 catches and run out chances , even Ireland would have crossed the line.  Pak did bowl well but they didn't win this match , Sri lanka lost it.

Now every match is a new match and they could win the SF and even the Final but today's match was given to them by SL on a platter and if a team struggles to chase 236 against a poor bowling side with horrendous fielding .  I am not sure how confidence building that is.

I thought Haris Sohail is middle-order batsman. He can be handful as middle-order provided Mohammad Hafeez opens. That way he can be goner within few overs due to new ball which provides more overs for the rest of batting line to make up runs till the end of the inning.

He has batted at #3 for PAK

yall are forgetting that ingerlund are CHOKERS. they have never won ANYTHING in one day cricket. ever.

they have a great one day team but they gotta do something no other team from their country has ever done. has to be some extra pressure on them.

Even if you consider them chokers they only choked in the final .

Both times they reached the CT final ,they stream rolled the opposition bin semis .

So whether the y are chokers or not has zero relevance to how they will play against Pakistan.

Regardless of the team Pakistan chooses , they do have a good chance to win . However, the reason is more related to England rather than Pakistan

  1. England hasn't dipped in the CT yet , they are bound to have a bad game either in the SF or Final
  2. England does have a tendency to lose important games -  They can fold under pressure .
  3. Pak with the new players in the team could be quite new for England to face under a pressure game

Difference between England/ india and pak/bd is that you will get  certain type of perfirmance consistantly. Both india England in all 3 games either scored 320 or looked all set to reach that score. Sure you can have an off day like india did but their was immediate correction. When you perform at that level game after game you are more likely to win more than lose. Pak BD both can reach final but eng ind are fav because they rely on team performance

Imad and Hafeez dropped. In place comes a specialist batsmen Haris and a specialist spinner Shadab. Malik can be an additional spinner if needed.

This team will have 4 seamers, one specialist spinner and one part timer. Fielding will also improve with Shadab and the line up can bat down to 10.

Because of the short nature of the tournament, teams if they bound to have a bad day they will mostly be out.

All of India (2013), Australia (2009) and WI (2004 ) won it without losing a game.Infact of all the champions only Aus in 2006 won in despite losing a game.
