SRT100
With Australia's batting decimated with the loss of captain Smith and vice captain Warner and the dark controversy surrounding the ball tampering, the impending test series against Australia in Australia, looms as India's strongest chance to win a Test series in Australia. If India can field their strongest XI, they may be in a position to win their first test series in Australia ever. In Australian conditions, the one area in which India are suspect is the batting. However, if Kohli can perform anywhere near his best and if he can be assisted a couple of others it will go a long way to beating Australia. Dont be mistaken, Australia still has a very lethal bowling unit but with all the issues surrounding their team, it could either galvanize them or tear them apart at the seam. Probably what is going to be crucial is for Kohil to not take a backward step against the Australians with them coming under a lot of heat and pressure from sledging on field. If India go back to those meek quiet teams of circa Ganguly teams, then the same past test results will transpire. Kohli needs to let Australia feel the heat for the entire series until it is won. I think its relevant discussion in light of Australia's current situation and the banned players. India's best chance in years. Probably the best time to hit Australia when they are down on the canvass. Link to comment

Nikhil_cric
I think the England tour is more important. Hopefully they are not burnt out after IPL . Winning in Australia is a lot harder considering the pitches Link to comment
wanted_desi
Even Beating OZ -B side would be hard. Those guys are monsters in their backyard just like India can win whole series when their Star Batsman is averaging 3 runs per inning. nevada 1 Link to comment

Gollum
Even if we win that thrill or sense of satisfaction won't be there because our 2 main tormentors in those conditions will be missing, even more farcical than 2003-04 tour because at least there Warne wouldn't have done much damage even had he played, last tour Warner got 3 100s, Smith got 4 100s and 800 runs. This is like a visiting team coming to India and playing us with Pujara and Kohli missing. Eng tour however is an acid test because they bullied us in the last 2 tours over there, we have never won more than a match in Eng since 1985, besides 2012 ka badla bhi lene hai, ghar me ghuske unhe unki aukaat dikhane ka time aa gaya ab toh. Gollum
Having said that OP is right, if we can't defeat a weakened Aussie team this year, we probably will never win there. Quite disgraceful actually that we haven't won there in these last 70 years while they have won in India 4 times. SRT100 1 Link to comment
Garuda
I think Australia when weakest will roll out pancake pitches so that no one will win there. I think we will win one but it will be a 1-1 draw similar to 2003. And then we will get together in IPL were Rohit will lord over everyone with his slap over extra cover for a 6. We had them in 1981 with the packer series boycott, 1985 with one of their worst sides in history but it all ended in a draw series. Only the Saffers have won consistently (they won the last 3 times they went there) and possibly poms when they had a good side. It is intersting to note that the Saffers never won against the Aussies since readmission until now. SA-Aus series has been the most riveting. Ashes meh nevada 1 Link to comment

Ashes meh Packer circus was over by 1980, so Aussies had a pretty good side India lucky to escape 1-1 in 1981. The best chance we had was in 1985 when we needed 120 odd runs in 2nd test but rain came ...i think sunny made single digit consuming tons of balls so combination of Aussie umpiring, bad Weather and fecked up opening batting cost India the series....in 2003/4 everyone knows the story ..pappu patel and some indecision by dada caused another chance. Your job is to beg for series with India so that your players don't fix due to lack of money. Leave the thinking to the others. Turning_track 1 Link to comment

Straight Drive
We had our first test series win against WI in 1972. Then after the tour to WI we toured England next and won our first ever test series win in England as well. Now in 2019 we are winning the first test series ever in Australia Sunny scored more than 1000 runs in each tour (WI and England) including tour matches iirc. Dilip Sardesai too was brilliant in WI.
