ALL of them Except Rahane,Ashwin Seem to Have Forgotten Their Backfoot Game with front foot trigger movement and going at the ball instead of Playing the ball late.Kohli gets away due to his skill but others can't.

One other important thing is playing with an open face when the ball is near off stump, like Rahul. That's completely stupid, you'll only nick thin edges to the slips! Bat face must always be towards the umpire, this basic shite has been ignored by everyone!

Actually everyone of them were defending with an open face, not every delivery but the ones near off stump, even Kohli. With a completely straight bat you'll either miss it or there would be thick edges. IIRC most England batters play this way.

The main issues I see are ...

1. Our batters don't want to play in the " V "  when the ball is moving or they are not set.   Their bats don't come down straight  enough a bit too often... they are too eager to either play with an open blade to the off or flick it to the leg.  Their bats coming down at an angle.

The biggest risk of flicking, when the ball is moving a lot, is the ball moving away and the batter gets squared up and either edges or gets bowled.

Playing with an open blade increases the risk of giving a catch to the slip cordon.

Why don't they play in the " V " when the ball is moving or the batters are not set  !!

2.  Many of them play with very hard hands while defending. This increases the probability of an edge carrying to the slips.

You defend with soft hands ... even if you edge the ball may not carry to a fielder.

3. More batsmen need to stand outside the crease when the ball is swinging.

If you look at Rahul's dismissal, or most of the other batters, they're using an open blade to defend the rising ball near off stump. Now unless the ball hits the meet of the bat, with the in dipper, it will always kiss the face or edge and go to the slips, fine. Here playing with soft hands doesn't work because it's not really hitting the thick edge, with the open face it just glides off.

For the full ball that got Vijay, shorten the bat lift and play dead straight, don't drive but just a check shot.

Kohli used soft hands and stood outside the crease ... but played with an angled bat a bit too often, the moment Woakes came to bowl after Anderson's spell ended.  It was almost like he relaxed after Andu.

Kohli was extremely lucky even in first test. With his technique he will always have problem when ball swings. But he is mentally strong enough to forget the edge.

This will happen every time when you don’t play practice and conditioning matches... many of them are playing these balls first time...

There’s no short cut to preparation for a 5 Test series...

Bloody senior players and the coach have suitably scheduled the trip so that they spend maximum time shopping and relaxing... and put unconditioned players to gain experience in Test matches... all these techniques etc will get sorted..

I hope ICC does changes in points table to strip points and don’t allow sub continent bullies to become top ranked team without winning away matches...

Ideally India should be ranked 5-6th team after losing this series... Then hopefully there will be some “G pe laat” at the collective butts of Captain, senior players and that joker of coach...

Kohli was circumspect during his first 50 runs or so in the 1st innings of the first test. Largely because of his history in England.

But his technique improved and he played excellently for his next 100 runs and in the 2nd innings. At thia time, Kohli was playing between extra cover to mid on while playing on the front foot.

I got the impression today that Kohli thought that Woakes was the weak link and he needed to attack him and score a few quick runs.
