We can’t have both Rayudu & Dhoni in the same batting line up!

Team India CAN NOT have both Ambati Rayudu and Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the same batting line up. These 2 slowpokes batting side-by-side in ODIs will always result in Team India posting below par totals or huffing and puffing to chase down scores.

Both Rayudu and Dhoni are poor in rotating strike consistently. They also both take forever to get set and bat freely. Even when both are set, they never put pressure on the opposition bowlers because they both lack the ability. Playing Rayudu at #4 followed by Dhoni at #5 will hurt us in a lot of ODI matches. It’s time for a change in approach.

Only Dhoni should be selected in the batting line up out of these 2. The best solution is to drop Rayudu from the team and promote Dhoni to #4. This will let us play Jadhav at #5 and bat for longer periods of time. Kedar is a very good player who averages over 40 with a strike rate over 100. Him batting at #5 will always keep the scoreboard ticking and get the occasional boundary. He also has a knack of getting a lot of big scores as proven in the domestic circuit.

For #6, we can slot in Karthik. I believe that Dinesh can be a great lower order batsman for team India because he can hit big from ball 1 and can play all the shots in the book to all parts of the ground. We all know that Karthik is not someone who can score centuries, but he is definitely a player who can take the game away from the opposition in the last 15-20 overs of the match. Karthik is also good at strike rotation and can smack the ball anywhere in the death overs. If both Karthik and Pandya are firing in the death overs, expect a lot of joy and success for Team India! Also, having Jadhav at #5 and Karthik #6 will always help Team India in getting those extra 20-30 runs to win the match.

For #7, Hardik Pandya is the best option we have. I don’t need to comment on this one because even the team management and captain knows that he is the best player for this slot.

A middle order of, Dhoni at #4, Jadhav at #5, Karthik at #6 and Pandya at #7 looks very good to post and chase 300+ totals on a consistent basis. Team India doesn’t need a selfish and slow batsman like Rayudu to make a mess of this middle order.

Fellow ICFers, we have a winner - please get that special hat we have on the forum - The one that says Captain Obvious.

If it is so obvious then why can't Captain Kohli, Coach Shastri,  Mentor MSD and the selectors see it   !!!!!

(  Despite what we think,  these high profile guys have much more practical knowledge of international cricket than we give them credit for   )

Because their logic is different.  There's a military saying - most, if not all Generals always prepare to re-fight the last (previous) war they fought.  To me, Virat is looking to win and set up games with the top 3, and mitigate risk with #4 and 5.  He wants to not lose a game from 30/3.   He's happy to have a couple of guys there who have low ceilings, but high floors.  Now I happen to disagree with such logic, and strongly at that, but its not entirely irrational.  We are a team that has a gun top order, that can win games with the bat.  AND we have a bowling attack that can win us games with the ball, even if we are 10-20 runs short of the optimal score.  So he'd rather not increase the chances of a super sub-par score in pursuit of those extra 20 runs.

I firmly believe that this is the wrong approach, to re-appropriate another non cricket metaphor, this is a team that can afford "guns AND butter" - it can and should work towards demanding more from that middle order than just disaster recovery.

Edit: And to add - my comments were more about there being pretty much 100% agreement from ALL posters on this forum about Rayudu and Greybeard.   Not about what the actual team thinks or does.

Don't think Rayudu is a certainty. Virat has continously talked about middle order and the need to be more proactive. However, he needs to put words into action.

He keeps saying he wants Dhoni to bat at ,5.. which means he is thinking Rayudu at ,4.. unless Gill shows up and convinces Kohli of his mettle in some of the upcoming ODIs
