ICF all-time Indian Test 11 - Two teams (Spin friendly conditions and pace/swing friendly)

Recommended Posts

Will consolidate the results and prepare ICF all-time Test 11 team at the end. No restrictions  / criteria for picking the 11 Indian test players. Not adding polls. Will manually calculate and post results.

Request to designate the captain, vc and wkt.

Edit: As it is noticed that there are some members who prefer team to be condition based, I quite like this idea. Members can post two teams - Name it as (1) Spin friendly conditions and (2) Pace friendly conditions

Teams will be accepted till 11th march, 2019. Results likely to be posted on 12th March, 2019.

In case of modifications of teams by same member, the last mentioned team by the member will be considered.

Mods: I tried searchng for similar thread and couldn't find any on this topic.. which is surprising as i feel there must be atleast couple of these.  Might as well merge in case a similar thread exists.

Will omit Sachin and Dhoni as there is a lot of thsesis done here on why they are useless.

Will also omit Gavaskar as Mumbai Lobby ruined cricket

Will omit Kapil Dev we we see his stats posted here to prove he is worse than Hardik Pandya and Yuvraj Singh.

will exclude other commonly hated players like Rahane and Pujara as well

So here is the best dream ICF X1 based on players we love here unanimously

Sehwag

KL Rahul

<u-19 batsman>

Lala Amarnath

Budhi Kunderan

Hardik Pandya

Krunal Pandya

Rishabh Pant

Umesh Yadav

Varun Aron

<u-19 phaast bowler>

Mohinder . Was excellent overseas and 5th bowler

Mohinder Amarnath and Madan Lal who both bowled medium pace did bowl together as a pair in some matches. As a pair i think they gave their best pereformance at Christchurch (1976 tour) . Madan Lal was a regular bowler though who bowled more than Mohinder.

This is just a random 11 by me. I have not checked stats, will study and post later. Heres a warm up India XI from me -

Sunny

Gautam Gambhir/ Sehwag

Dravid

Sachin

Kohli

Dhoni

Kapil

Kuldeep Yadav ( I know he is young in test, but the way he has performed overseas, in my book, he is ahead )

Zaheer

Bumrah

Srinath/ Kumble ( Depending upon condition )

Why did I not chose another batsman like others have done? I believe with the likes of Sunny, sachin, dravid and kohli, with kapil and dhoni, we DO NOT need any more batsmen. If these batsmen cant handle the bowlers, one more batsman can do jacks*it!

Whereas, we have 4 genuine bowlers, with Kapil as a medium pacer, along with Sachin who can twist his arm around too with leg cutters.

I am considering minimum sample size of 40 tests...otherwise it may open a pandora's box. Also only players that have retired, impossible to tell how some of the current players may end their careers.

1) Spin conditions

Gavaskar

Sehwag

Dravid

SRT

Laxman

Kapil

Dhoni(c and wk)

Kumble (vc)

Srinath

Bedi

Chandra

2) Pace and Swing

Gavaskar (vc)

Amarnath

Dravid (c)

SRT

Vishy

VVS

Kapil

Engineer (wk)

Zaheer

Srinath

Prasanna

In 10 years time I see quite a few changes, but right now I will go with these XIs OP.

Retired players only to reduce options

Spin conditions

Gavaskar (c)

Sehwag

Dravid

Sachin

VVS

V Mankad

Kapil (vc)

Dhoni

Srinath

Prasanna

Chandra

  • 3 spinners - Chandra (freak), Prasanna (legendary off spinner), and Mankad (probably Ind's best AR)
  • Kapil and Srinath as opening bowlers. Srinath used to get top order wkts too to make it easier for the spinners

Pace and swing conditions

Gavaskar (c)

Sehwag

Dravid

Sachin

M Amarnath

V Mankad (at times was like one man show in tests in Eng iirc. opened in tests too)

Engineer (opened in tests too and played county cricket in Eng iirc)

Kapil (vc)

Srinath

Zak

Chandra (won us a test in Eng, etc. iirc)

  • 3 pacers - Kapil (AR), Srinath and Zak. Other options include Amar Singh and Md Nissar
  • 2 spinners - Chandra and Mankad (AR)
