Good for him, if he seems to be content with his Cricket and has changed his priorities for other personal reasons, it should be respected.

He was one of good LOI players we had.

He was committed to Cricket while he was playing. He fulfilled all the requirements for his job and even excelled at some point of time. Why should he questioned about his commitment or anything else if he choose to prioritize his family or personal life over cricket. We all do that at some point of time.

Noone here knows the actual reality of Raina's fitness or mindset.  And this former coach is another old uncle looking for his 15 minutes of fame.  Raina may be done.  Or may not be.  Time will tell.   As of now, in my opinion, he makes the T20 squad.  We need a quality ball striker who can start hitting boundaries soon after getting to the crease.  And Raina has the experience and the skillset.  And he's effective, inspite of his wellknown issues against the short stuff.  

 

Regarding his form and fitness, until we see him play and fail - in the IPL for instance, its all speculation.  And people are all too willing to write off players once they are on the other side of 30.   Facts be damned.

What I really like about Raina is he is one of the few batsmen who can get into top gear from ball 1. Only Sehwag could do that, probably Yuvraj in his hey days. Rest of the batsmen need some time to get going. He has great ability to hit big sixes, hit over the fielders, find gaps, good runner between the wickets and score at a very good pace. He is probably India's No.1 T20 batsman. He is a good fielder, good team man and also capable of being calm under pressure and finished many games for India.  He is a match winner in T20s and ODIs in his own right.

 

But his problem against short deliveries has been exploited by bowlers especially in conditions helpful for fast bowlers. He has worked on it but you can still see he doesnt feel comfortable playing the short deliveries. He has never been able to play swing or seam movement confidently but that wont affect him much in ODIs and T20s especially at the position he bats.

 

He has also put on weight in recent years and he is not agile on the field as he used to be. Hopefully, he will continue to work hard on his fitness and technique and get back into the side.

I am a huge fan of Raina!! He would be my 2nd automatic pick in my Indian T20 without any doubt... Hopefully selector don't ignore him.. Team India needs Raina...
