Star writes to ICC, expresses 'deep concern'

Pressure appears to be building up on the International Cricket Council(ICC) to convince its stakeholders of India's participation in the Champions Trophystarting early next month. On Wednesday, it came to light that the giant broadcaster sent out a formal letter to the ICC, expressing concerns. Sources in the governing body told TOI of the communication received from Star India, which expresses "deep concern on the uncertainties" and how it has already impacted the commercial prospects of the Champions Trophy.

"If India were not to participate, the tournament would lose its meaning," Star has conveyed to the game's parent body.

 

Star is clearly getting jittery with less than 30 days remaining for the tournament to start. "Anxiety levels are going up given what's at stake for them," a source in the know of things said.

 
Sanjay Gupta, the managing director at Star India -official broadcast partners of the ICC -had spoken with TOI last week and said "we are confident BCCI and the ICC will resolve issues around the tournament".
 
Gupta had sounded confident that matters would be resolved and now, given the BCCI's decision to send the notice to the ICC, it is learnt that Star has decided to take things up. "They believe that the disagreements between the two parties are widening rather than narrowing and their advertisers are getting nervous too," the source added.
 
Last week, Group M's Southeast Asia CEO CVL Srinivas had also expressed concerns from the advertisers' point of view, given the uncertainty of India's participation in the tournament.

I'd just love it if BCCI further demands more than they originally demanded. Not much, maybe $5 million more. Not because the money matters but to show that bloody ICC on who runs the show, and to never mess with their baap again.

I dont understand why Manohar and CoA are being such SoB. If you go throgh BCCI stand it is very mature and infact they have said they want to be part of CT but take the final decision on restructuring and remodellin of ICC post CT.

 

However ICC has taken hard stance that they want BCCI to accept the new model or invoke MPA. ICC itself is living in lala land.

And secondly, we had even during the meeting made it clear that let us postpone the discussion on the revenue model for two months, let the Champions Trophy end and then we can happily go back and discuss the matter. But some adamant people made it an ego battle.

“Now, we cannot really let them trample us just because we are involved in a mess of our own with the daily functioning of the board. Is the money coming to the accounts today? It is an eight-year process. So what was the hurry? Could we not have waited till June to come to a conclusion on this? Why is it that our stance is being considered as an attempt to jeopardise the Champions Trophy when we were the ones to ask them to wait for the tournament to get over before taking a call on this?”

Since lawyers have come in frame looks like CoA are in tight spot too.

The CoA's communication to the BCCI, meanwhile, raises six crucial points that hasn't been brought out by the court-appointed administrators. They are as follows:

A) The detailed response of the UK-based law firm;

B) Did ICC respond to the 12-page letter that CoA had written last month?;

C) CoA's detailed take on changes being sought in ICC's governance model;

D) Why did CoA not include BCCI in talks while negotiating with ICC's member boards?;

E) Is COA comfortable with the idea of India's share of revenue being distributed among countries that have financial irregularities to answer for?;

F) Is CoA willingly admitting that loss of revenue for BCCI could also lead to loss of revenue for exchequer through foreign exchange and taxes.

They have asked Bcci to declare the team immediately.

As per point 10 Looks like CoA owned negotiations, messed it up. Now they are feeling the heat of their Chwtiyap.

Looking at the age, I am sure all the members of CoA must be suffering from High BP. Wont be surprised if one ends up in ICU by Monday morning

No, they should ask 50-100 mill atleast more then their share and exemption from playing every test playing nation clause along with immediate resignation of Shashank Manohar.
