OpeningBatsman Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 I think hardik will play. We can't play a pure bowler in his place, it will weaken the batting. express bowling 1
Cricketics Posted May 16, 2017 Author Posted May 16, 2017 This is where I wanted Hardik to score runs really. Like today he failed when team needs to take the game till the end and win and rotate. Eventually there will be time when India will be 120-4 or 5 and we have 20 overs to bat, and we would need Hardik to rotate or stay on the wicket and not just go bang bang and get out. Today he was in similar situation with Parthv but he gave it away. Won't be too harsh on him but eventually for India if he doesn't score in these situations, and is bowling just okay, it will start hurting the team. Since many rate him as batting all rounder here, this is important point to note. Don't want him to become another Yusuf Pathan with the bat. And hopefully, he keeps his bowling up. As the better he bowls, it migh show in his batting also, and vice versa.

Well Jadeja was given umpteen chances and he has never to date performed with the bat in LOIs barring one or two matches and thats out of 100 +, so it's only fair that Pandya gets a bit of a long run.
sandeep Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Can the mods move my long-winded defense of Pandya's selection from the Bombay-Pune match thread to this one?

I can, can you tell me which particular one, well you can also copy paste your post as this one is valid too.

Deserves the run but need to be seen what kind of shots he plays when he fails. I will maintain that if he does good in one thing, it will help him do the other thing better. He really needs to bowl well which will even help him bat well.

He is averaging 53 with a SR of 119 ( very high ) in his brief career. Played 3 critical knocks to take his team to wins. sandeep and Laaloo 2

Yes and we will need him to bowl in the middle overs because we only have two part timers in Yuvi and Jadhav and Yuvi is ineffective and who knows if Jadhav even gets a game or not.

Rohit Dhawan VK Yuvi MS Jadhav Pandya - Barring injury that's India's top 7 in CT. Given the squad, its fairly predictable. Pandey and Rahane are in there for injury cover. If Ash doesn't play, and we play 3.5 seamers, Jadhav will be the only one who can turn the ball away from left-handers. Team selection and balance is going to reflect a lot on VK this CT. Can't blame Dhoni this time.

But the way he bats is my concern and hence down the line I feel he migh struggle if he doesn't bring the game to rotate strike.

Bit suprised with your impatience with him Ticsy - Even a Virat Kohli wasn't that great in ODIs after playing 10 odd games. And Pandya's actually done fairly decent with the bat, if you evaluate him just as a #6 bat, even though he bats even lower and doesn't get chances to really pad his numbers with easy runs. The only times he comes in to bat for more than 10 overs, is if the top order fails. He's batted a grand total of 5 times in ODIs: 36(32), 9(13), 40*(37), 19*(9), 56(43) - these are very good numbers. And he has shown a decent range in his boundary hitting - its not all leg-side tonks, not by any stretch.

Thing is I play cricket pretty much every second day so saying from experience after seeing similar players each week. Such kind of players who usually are just big hitters tend to not work well, especilly the Indian ones as when they travel, they fail. I hope Pandya works well. He comes at a batting order which is not the easiest place to bat so that is already tough ans he has done well so far there, but moment Indian line up starts to struggle and he gets to bat early on regular basis, he will be really tested a lot. I hope he continues to bowl well and bat well as a player like him in form is perfect for Indian cricket because honestly, unless one has seen Kapil Dev whom i never saw live, then it is tough too remember any seamer who could bat at a high strike rate and average. He is one of a kind in that.
Cricketics Posted July 2, 2017 Author Posted July 2, 2017 Disappointed with Pandya today as he did the hard work and then kind of played a lose shot. He has shown that he can hit spinners but not the same against fast or medium fast bowlers consistently at international level. These are the games Pandya needs to stay on the wicket and win it for India, just what I mentioned in the OP. He is our strength and also weakness down the order at this time. His failure makes our tail looks longer with Dhoni already battinf slow and Yuvi continuing to be inconsistent. He deserves more chances but need to put a higher price on his wicket in the future.
maniac Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 @CricketicsDid well with the ball. What about top order batsmen? Anyway why is there a deflection..is it because Kohlis captaincy has been piss poor....no again his failures are fine as a bad patch for someone who has been a gun performer can be overlooked once in a while sandeep 1

Also score should have been easily chased by top order where Karthik and Rahane and Dhawan and Kohli failed badly. Hence today Pandya had opportunity to stay on the wicket which he did for a bit and then gave away. Top order is always to blame if you can't chase 180 but I would also blame Dhoni and Pandya too for not finishing it off. Don't want to be harsh on Pandya but since he is playing as a batsman who can bowl, basicaly a batting all rounder as most call him and think, then he should start winning us this games or finishing these games.
