Hardik Pandya mystery

So Rohit hasn't used him much in this year's IPL as a bowler, at times hasn't bowled a single over and when he has bowled few, he has gone for runs. Today he gave about 30 runs in 2 overs

He has been pretty good with the bat though, just like Yusuf Pathan too was earlier as a hitter when he first came, but is he a sure shot selection for every game in CT?

I think he will start in the CT as he has scored runs recently, but the moment he fails in the first two games with the bat, he might be over looked and rightly so, unless he is bowling exceptionally well.

Doubt Kohli will stick with him if he fails with the bat in the first two games and bowling okayish.

So far batting well for his slot as he comes down the order but he is very much like Yusuf Pathan with the bat at this time of his career. We don't know how he will turn out with the bat. Such players can give lot of hard time to a captain and consistency from him with either bat or ball will be really important.

Pandya is must for India odi side. You can't judge his bowling at T20 for ODIs.He does swing the new ball and has bowled well in ODIs.He lends balance to side .

Not to forget he is one of best slogger at end.

Yes, like I have said myself he is yet to prove with bat at international more.

Many here have already started seeing him as Batsman who bowls, though for me he is still a bowling all rounder as that is how he came to the team and since he doesn't bat in the top order or often bats, so he is a more bowling all rounder for now.

It doesn't matter what one calls as it is not a big thing, point is his selection after few games could be questionable.

He is yet to prove in both but has done decently well in both departments since his arrival and hence deserves his selection and chance.

I just feel that if he doesn't bat well when required, and if Indian batting is struggling in UK, Kohli might look to play someone else instead of picking a batsman who bats like Yusuf Pathan and might be hit or miss player.

Most ICFers have already started seeing him as batsman who bowls, so if his batting is failing, and bowling is just okay in UK, he might not be sure selection for every game.

I think he got mom on debut and had a good series against eng bowling wise.Eng should suit hia style of bowling.

All tracks are flat these days, as 300s+ are on everywhere in England just like India or anywhere, so will be interesting to see how he used.

He started the bowling when Shami wasn't around, now with Shami back and Bhuvi, he won't get new ball, so will be bowling the middle overs a lot.

He has the pace unlike binny n rishi to get something out in middle overs. Also he is deceptively quick so he always gets the advantage due to that.

He ll get to bowl with 4-5 over old ball as i feel shami wudnt be used in long spells. He will be bowled with new ball, since he is a wkt taker his overs to get wkts in middle and death overs wud be saved as well.

If we decide to go with 2 spinner hardik wud bowl with a new ball

Yeah most likely since he has been tried as Bumrah is out of question with the new ball and Bhuvi and Shami are likely starters, so with 2 spinners, may be yes.

Pandya was picked for his batting, not bowling. He was the top run getter in SMA T20 trophy and then he was picked for Aus tour where he played T20s.

Dhoni gave him new ball in debut series and last over in WT20. Clearly not seen as a batsman who can bowl. Rohit has different ideas, not sure what Virat's thinking.

Pandya is a very much needed in our ODI line up. More for his hitting down the order than his bowling right now. When we need some quick runs down the order who will you send? Jadeja??? Don't take his IPL performances seriously, Pandya did a decent job with the ball in the ODI's vs Eng and NZ. Too early to judge Hardik as he has played only 7 ODI's till now.

Problem is he does not have a yorker at all. His only trick bowling at death is slower balls or shot pitch bowling which gets spanked.

He should not be in used at death. Should bowl only in middle overs upto 40th.

I think he is a good slogger but still not quite the level of a decent batsman. He should bat after Jadeja if picked. As a bowler, he can be used with the new ball or in middle overs as he has decent pace and can get some movement and not at the death because he can be quite predictable with the slower deliveries. Doesnt have accurate yorkers. But still he can improve and definitely deserves a place in the side when playing in Aus, Eng, SA or NZ.

He should be picked over Ashwin in ODIs because Ash is a poor batsman in ODIs because he doesnt slog well as he is not a good hitter. He looks to improvise a lot but doesnt quite have the ability. Hence averages 16 in ODIs with 1 fifty. Compare that to Jadeja who averages 33 and has 10 fifties. Ashwin is definitely a much better test batsman. A seamer AR is a much better option than Ashwin on flat, hard tracks in ODIs.

He is future of India cricket. The missing link to win a test series abroad. His development is most important thing for Indian cricket.

Absolutely.. in the last few years our fast bowlers bowl very good first spells in overseas but as the new ball loses shine and spinners toil they become flat. Hardik can be critical in giving them enough rest for their 2nd n 3rd spells.

Also our lower order has not been great so he can be that vital cog who can form a good partnership with a top order batsman or score quick runs if required

Hardik will play all the matches in CT, if fit.

  • He lends balance to our ODI team as he is the only true ODI all-rounder. ( Ashwin is a test all-rounder only and Jadeja is too inconsistent in terms of hitting ability in LOIs )
  • He is one of the very few lower-middle order sloggers we have. Someone who can start hitting pacers for 6s and 4s from ball one and bat at a very high SR.
  • His bowling has been useful in the first 40 overs in ODIs. We saw that against NZ and England. Even in the IPL, in the only match he was bowled 4 overs by Rohit, he did excellently and picked up 2 wickets for very few runs.
  • As a bowler, he has developed a stock delivery in the last 7 months and that is excellent.  He gets outswing too and has an excellent bouncer.
  • He is a fast learner.

Exactly.

As he has a good stock delivery these days, gets outswing , has a good bouncer, gets bounce off his length balls too and bowls 135 k to 145 k..... he can be a good test bowler if he practices bowling a lot.

And he will lend balance to the test team overseas with his all-round abilities.
