sandeep Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 Questions should be asked as to why ECB gets to host the champions trophy for the 2nd successive time when the weather issues are so known and expected. Only plausible reason is to give the pusillanimous pommie ODI team big-game practice in home conditions ahead of the 2019 WC. And line the ECB pockets with ICC money in the process.
Ultimate_Game Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 Well there are showers forecast for Sunday. The weather report says "Plenty of sunshine and a few showers will feature on Sunday." So a lot might depend on the toss.
mishra Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 7 minutes ago, Stumped said: They can't risk ruining the pitches so early on in the tournament, Edgbaston appear to have 3 pitches prepped for their 5 games. 5 odi games on three pitches sounds ok.It is going to get clearer by 1 PM. That still gives 5-6 hrs of game time.

UK residents should be last to complain. However there should be a reserve day atleast for semis and finals
sandeep Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 19 minutes ago, Stumped said: It was meant to be the inaugural world test championship. Believe at what would've been the cut off it would've been India, Australia, Pakistan and England in semi finals at The Oval and Edgbaston with the winners facing off in the final at Lords. So how does a cancelled test championship turn into hosting rights for the ODI Champions Trophy? Countries with weather issues in June shouldn't host global tournaments in June. Simple as.
sandeep Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 1 minute ago, Stumped said: Because the tournament was directly replaced with it. The same way India will be hosting the 2021 champions trophy (or if you prefer so their team can get some practise for the 2023 world cup they're hosting ;)). But India won't be hosting the Champions trophy 2 times in a row, will it? BCCI has always been generous with the hosting rights of global tournaments - as a mechanism to fund the ICC. You should know that the Champions trophy was created by the BCCI as a funding vehicle for the ICC. But if selfish organizations like the ECB are feeding at the ICC trough excessively, there is no reason for the BCCI to be so generous with its team's time and commitment. Pollack 1

Do you now agree he is a hack?
sandeep Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 12 minutes ago, Stumped said: No, and neither would the ECB if the BCCI hadn't pushed through their broadcasters desire to have an ODI tournament rather than a test tournament with the ICC due to the increased Indian market for the shorter format. This is false revisionist propaganda. Fact is, that the BCCI led "big three" changes institutionalized a test cricket fund at the ICC level. And the BCCI updated their cricket schedule to drastically increase the amount of test cricket that the Indian team plays. And these pro-test cricket changes were rolled back by the recent coup carried out by the Giles Clarke led ECB faction. Its convenient to make the BCCI the bogeyman for all that ails cricket. But the truth is far more inconvenient.
sandeep Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 5 minutes ago, Stumped said: Cutting everyones funding then giving a fraction of it back in the form of a fund with the buzz word 'test cricket' in it isn't exactly doing much... And taking that fraction away is somehow better? Bribing corrupt boards like Zimbabwe and WICB and giving them millions of dollars taken from Indian cricket, to steal or waste as they see fit, is better than setting up a Test cricket fund at the ICC level? Do you have an uncle named Giles by any chance?
sandeep Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 5 minutes ago, Stumped said: Where's the suggestion to remove that fraction come from? The Giles Clarke faction's proposed changes to the ICC Constitution abolishes the test cricket fund. 5 minutes ago, Stumped said: Funny how the tables turn when the BCCI suddenly can't get away with bribing teams such as Sri Lanka, West Indies etc. with tours for votes as they have done over the years. Funny how when the ECB's shenanigans are being exposed, you have to resort to either shifting goalposts, or sad efforts at "whataboutery" to defend the indefensible.
sandeep Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 2 minutes ago, Stumped said: All the test cricket fund is is a small amount of extra funding per year for the 'small 7' with the word test cricket chucked in as a buzz word to make it look good and like a proactive effort. It's being removed but there'll still be a net increase in funding to all the boards that received it making it redundant. I don't see anything that's been exposed and neither have I been trying to defend anything here. In this case I was just pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of the BCCI and it's fans in whining about boards voting for the proposal that gives them a financial incentive when that's exactly what the BCCI have been pushing the likes of Sri Lanka to do for years. Champions trophy is a fund-raising vehicle designed to generate funds for the ICC and grow the game. That's why it was held in places like Kenya, and Bangladesh (pre-test status). ECB hogging the hosting rights 2 successive times is not in line with the ICC's agenda. By hosting the tournament in an expensive location, ICC costs go up. Fans don't benefit, since the weather causes problems and games are in danger of being rained out. Other countries that could have used the funds generated from hosting it lose out as well. ECB surely benefits though. Get to bill the ICC for 'costs', as well as getting a dry run in home conditions before the ODI world cup. This selfish action is what was being discussed, and you are somehow attempting to bash the BCCI for it. That's what is called shifting the goalposts. Vilander 1
sandeep Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 5 minutes ago, Stumped said: Shifting goalposts would be actively criticing the ECB for hosting the tournament due to those conditions when the board you're trying to defend will be doing the exact same thing in 4 years time, no? No. India would be hosting the CT after a 15 year gap - after letting a bunch of other countries host it. And not doing it 2 times in a row. So it is nowhere near "exact same thing". Repeating a lie over and over again doesn't make it so. Such Trumpian and Brexit nonsense may work with idiots, but not here. Vilander 1
sandeep Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 3 minutes ago, Stumped said: The BCCI described the champions trophy as a 'financial burden' and were having stadiums turn down the offer of hosting games because of the losses they would generate last time they held it, of course they wouldn't want 2 in a row even if it was pushed on them as a less financially lucrative alternative to a tournament they already had the rights to like it has for England. And if India view it as a financial burden what would smaller nations view it as nowadays? So now that you have been pants-ed and cornered with your false claim that India is hosting CT twice in a row, now its time to shift goalposts. Unfortunately, you are once again on shaky ground with your post. Please provide sources for such claims that India doesn't want to host tournaments. International cricket tournaments in India fill stadiums. Its the rest of the world that struggles. Regardless, its the TV revenue that's the most lucrative and host countries get ample compensation to them regardless of stadium proceeds. And how about we take the word of other "smaller" nations on whether they want to host? I'm sure Windies/Bangladesh/SL would have gladly hosted the tournament. But no. ECB's too busy feeding at the ICC trough. Only crumbs for the "smaller nations" and that too doled out at the "discretion" of committees controlled by slimy Giles. Vilander 1
Rasgulla Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 We ll be playing in same ground as nz and aus Match is doomed
Austin 3:!6 Posted June 2, 2017 Author Posted June 2, 2017 Looks like it'll be raining. Where did you see that? BBC now saying weather will be fine and sunny. But I wont trust English weather. It was not supposed to rain today as well. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
