Ankit_sharma03 Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/video_audio/1104059.html Dravid in this interview says his best use is in middle overs where he can smash spinners , his fielding is not upto the mark His IPL Side makes him bat in middle order Delhi does the same in LOI Even in this years Zonal LOI games pant batted in middle When he debut for India again he batted in middle I did notice in IPL he didnt play short ball in a gr8 but way but is there something else as well He is one guy u shud look for advantage in powerplay Dravid wants a full run given to rahane JaFanatic 1
renjith Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 (edited) his defensive technique is not that strong. may not be able to handle top class bowlers moving the new ball. he may tonk the ball in few innings but can't expect to be consistent against new ball with limited technique. 30 ball 50 once in 10 innings kind of player is not what we need in top order. we need big innings players in top 3. imo pant is better off playing in middle over where his technique won't be tested much. How do u come to a conclusion that he ll score only one 50 in 10 games. He plays high risk cricket doesnt guarntee he ll be that inconsistent . We already have kohli and one among dhawan n rohit wud stay. That one big inning player has to be at 4 who can also accelrate as well. Someone like KL rahul. The only consistency we get from dhawan n rohit is on pattas. Rohit even looses that on patta when under pressure. Thats not a high benchmark. Apart from big inning player a top order also needs an impact player who can give u an advantage in powerplay . Lets not forget we have the worst runrate in world when it comes to 1st 10 overs in last 2 yrs. Edited June 19, 2017 by Ankit_sharma03
Ankit_sharma03 Posted June 19, 2017 Author Posted June 19, 2017 @express bowling Any particular reason u have noticed in his batting?

He does not have a consistent back-and-across trigger movement. This might result in him playing outside-off stump deliveries a bit away from his body on occasions. His off-stump play is not clear to us yet. This maybe one of the reasons why he is not preferred as an opener. Also, from whatever little I have seen, he often has a tendency of playing shortish deliveries of pacers on the front foot. This might cause issues on occasions on bouncy pitches. Despite all this, he seems to have sufficient time to play fast bowlers and generally plays them well. He is a natural and ends up playing lofted pulls quite well too. His timing is sublime, he has loads of power and confidence ....and plays with an uncluttered mind. It might be a good idea to introduce him to ODIs in the middle order and decide from then on. But it was there uncluttered mindset that got them success. Their avg n consistency werent high but they had gr8 impact. Regd Pant i think we shud give him a shot at opening once he settles down and shows signs of improvement against new ball. Some how feel his pact wud be a lot more at top rather middle. Atleast he shud start opening in domestic games. There is no better place then top 3 in LOI. Him opening against new ball wud help him as batsman for test to as a batsman at 6 or 7 is likely to face 2nd new ball a lot of times Vk1 1

But, I don't want him opening straight away.... if he fails in a few games as an opener, he maybe dropped from the team. Ankit_sharma03 1
Vk1 Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 We have already delayed his arrival by 6 months. There was a time when under 19 used to be a direct route to team india and that gave us yuvraj bhajji raina kohli etc. Sure we had some mediocre ones like unadkat but it's a great pool to pick from. ss25, Ankit_sharma03 and express bowling 3

I had watched few of his under 19 innings and he was weak outside off stump. am not saying he will be a 100% failure in opening position. but as @express mentioned, if we straight away tries him in opening position and he fails (which has a greater probability as he is weak outside offstump and generally not so strong technically), he will straight away be dropped and it can affect his career. if he is tried in middle order, there is greater possibility of success and later on if he is found to be comfortable against moving ball, then can be tried in opening position. as far as solving indias runrate issue at start of innings, i would recommend kl rahul. he can start hitting from ball 1 as well as have a strong technique. Pollack Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 You answered your own question. Because dravid thinks so.
rkt.india Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 In short, he needs to improve his footwork. His lack of footwork might not affect him against domestic trundlers but good fast bowlers will certainly exploit it. Ankit_sharma03 1
Vk1 Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 perhaps the best writer in the game , Sid monga echoes what he have been discussing about ash n jadeja on icf.
