kohli, jadeja- burnout (long test series, IPL) 

dhoni, yuvi- age 

 

4. Poor tactics- pandya bowls an opening bowlers length-but  kept for middle overs bumrah bowls death overs length- opened the bowling 

 

5. Poor team and squad selection- msd, yuvi and ashwin- no wrist spinner 

 

to be fair we over achieved by reaching the final- but once faced with Pakistan in the final, should have won

Honestly I have a suspicion they might have under-performed the first match to get better odds for the rest of tournament.

 

IIRC they were 30:1 to win afterwards and became more profitable to win.

Basically our strengths in bowling(not topnotch anyway) was nullified by the conditions. we depend on swing and spin.

pakistan and sl can punish our spinners easily in these totally unhelpful conditions.

 

2 spinners rendered null and void. 2 pacers only known for death bowling(not wickets). A young bowling allrounder who has limitations

at the moment in range of skills.

 

where r the wickets goin to come from? despite the fact pakistan is not the grestest of batting lineups.we didnt have one hostile top notch bowler

 

More hostile 6 ft 3 and above bowlers are needed. 

 

Also the batting has been top heavy with yuvraj's decline and raina's failure to be better. There has been some unsettled middle order with oldies with shaky techniques on their last legs and  jadhav a rubbish fielder and unproven.

 

They didnt respond well to the fall of wickets

 

There has to be some firepower to the 4-6 positions and thats where rahul and pandey are important in the near future.

I would add one more thing. After seeing Rohit's struggle against Aamir in the first match (25 dots with plays and misses i would have had Dhawan facing Aamir first up.  It might sound like you don't back your batsman up. But you are reducing the probability of losing a wicket in the first over.

That was more of his own mistake than laziness. He would not have played such a silly shot upfront. Rohit was fidgety, nervous upfront to see off that over. Dhawan is never nervous.

If Kohli had come in after say 10 overs whole thing would have been different. New ball vs Kohli is always risky based on his style.  India lacked a left arm seamer to practice against. I would rather have taken Unadkat instead of Ashwin.As soon as the squad was announced most fans were pissed off for not selecting youngsters. Somehow top 3 coming to form masked that short coming. Also there was no out of the box thinking like changing the batting order on the fly.  Kohli is a batting legend. But he just is tactical like Gambhir.  Gambhir was the first to get the  leg slip position for Ashwin against NZ matches frequently during the 5-0 whitewash against NZ.  Also with KKR he would always use his bowlers based on batsmen, pitch condition. You cannot follow the fixed plans.

If u see properly Amir set rohit up. 2 balls left him and third came in. Brilliant tactic. 

 

Another day Rohit might win the duel.

Yes Junaid was never a threat. His wicket meant Kohli against new ball. It was a tactic that they should have employed.

**** happens. Expect India to trounce opposition mercilessly in the next few series. I expect Handya to become epic and Krandya in the team, Shami back to being best.
