Going forward, what is your ideal ODI combination ?

Pant/Shreyas Iyer/KL Rahul/Sarfaraz - an aggressive opener who has the license to take advantage of powerplay and go after bowlers

Sarfaraz is not an opener. He is a middle order batsman. From whatever I have seen in IPL he is a street smart cricketer with a good temperament under pressure. If he can work on his fitness he can be groomed for the finisher's role.

There is still some time left for the next WC but the preparations has to start now. By the time the WC starts the young players who will be in the squad should have played 15-20 games for India.

We have to try out new players to find the ideal ODI combination for WC19

1. Dhawan / Iyer -- quick-starting opener

2. Rohit / Rahul -- opener

3. Kohli

4. Rahul / Pandey / Jadhav

5. Pant / Samson -- wicket keeper -- big hitter

6. Hardik / Shankar / Nagarkotti --   pacer-allrounder-- big hitter

7. Krunal / Lomror -- spinner allrounder-- big hitter

8. Kuldeep / Chahal -- wrist spinner

9. Bhuvi / Khejroliya  -- 3 fast bowlers

10. Bumrah / Siraj

11. Shami / Nathu / Thampi

Wanted to add nagarkotti but not sure how much will he grow in next 2 yrs as an all rounder.

Nagarkotti did very well in the VH Trophy with both ball and bat.

What about Lomror? Another big hitter allegedly.

How about this line-up? :giggle:

(1) Shubham Gill/Shivam Chaudhary

(2) Ishan Kishan

(3) Himanshu Rana/Prithvi Shaw

(4) Risabh Pant (wk)

(5) Sarfaraz Khan

(6) Mahipal Lomror

(7) Abhishek Sharma

(8) Kamlesh Nagarkoti

(9) Rahul Chahar

(10) Avesh Khan

(11) Nathu Singh/K. Seth

It shows that our pace options are quite thin as far as < 21 yr olds are concerned.

Raina is an all rounder if you are new to cricket , he definitely is.   Now should I add the smiley's to make it sound like my argument had a bigger impact or not , how does it work ?

3-4 overs aren't enough as an all rounder ??   Christ man you got limited ability but the more you talk the worse you make it seem  - all rounders do not typically bowl more than 5-6 overs at Max   -   Kluesener ,  Shoaib Malik , Hafeez ,  Symonds , Razzaq -  they always bowled 5-6 overs at max. - You aren't ideally looking to get 10 overs from an all rounder -  if they have  good day but not as much.

So just because you rate Vijay Shankar highly and I don't , should I add the smiley's here and how many ?

Nearly all of the people you named you could actually pick up wickets and occasionally run through sides - Symonds, Razzaq and Klusener all have multiple 4wkt and 5wkt hauls. It is an insult to Zulu in particular to compare him with Raina on any level (except fielding).

Gambhir will be a dead duck against any decent seamer. The slips will be licking their lips waiting for a catch any minute. Its shocking how he has regressed over the years. He used to be a good test batsman and did well in New Zealand and South Africa and had a very good ODI career. Now cant play any seamer to save his life.

3. gambhir is useful for 2 more yrs

4. Rahane is not a failure in Odi

5. yuvi is a decent fielder

Ye raina's bowling comparison with Kluesener ,  Shoaib Malik , Hafeez ,  Symonds , Razzaq alag level ka gem hai

Do you really think stupidity makes much of a difference to my opinion.

Those were just examples of All rounders bowling not more than 5-6 overs a game - How many overs on average have those bowlers have bowled every game ?

Ofcourse Raina is not the same level as them but in essence yes Raina is similarly on a level of an all rounder - is he as skilled ? certainly not.

I do not think Vijay Shankar as highely as you , if you have a man crush on them , not my fault. I wouldn't put him on my list , if that offends you , doesn't make much of a difference.

And for for you =  ill put it again   - Gambhir  certainly does deserve a chance to fight for a spot in the team .

Team after next 6 months (after yuvi dhoni exit probably)

Rohit (Can play long innings)
Dhawan (same)
Kohli (legend at 3)
Rahul (Tight technique to handle pace if quick wickets fall / can be destructive as well/ six hitter) our joe root
Hooda (Big hitter and part time option)
Pant(wk) (best option if dhoni retires )
Pandya (Big hitter should can promoted at 5 or 6 / good improving bowler )
Jadeja (will be effective with his tight line if wicket taking bowler like kuldeep is at other end/ Gun fielder/ a vert good bat option at 8)
Kuldeep (wicket taking option in middle overs/ good bat i think better than ashwin or bhuvi in odis)
Shami (our best wicket taking seamer with good skills with new and old ball)
Bumrah (death specialist)

P.S. - Hooda and Pant are great hitters & have excellent first class average (50+) which is extremely rare,
so they can handle good attack if we are 80-4 also, they need to be developed

If its seaming conditions replace jaddu with umesh/bhuvi

Replacements :
Striking opener - pant or kishan
middle order - jadhav/Iyer
Jaddu replacement - krunal
spinners -  chahal or any new young wrist spinner like chahar
seamer - rotate nathu/umesh/siraj etc.
left arm seamer - sran/aniket/milind/khalil

Finding these core group of 20-25 is important before 2019

For God's sake kick out Rahane, kartik and ashwin from squad and sorry yuvi paa you too.

Kohli rohit dhawan hardik bhuvi bumrah shami dhoni kl rahul are certainties. That's 9 out of 15. Kuldeep kedar umesh should be mostly there for 2019. We need a spinner, a middle order with hitting capability and another all-rounder perhaps for the remaining 3 slots.

Posted

One thing that most of us are probably forgetting. Part-time spinners are almost extinct now and definitely useless for 2019 England pitches  unless you are unconventional like kedar.
