Karnataka appoints panel to design ‘state flag’, look into legal sanctity

Even as the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre chants the one-nation mantra, the Congress-led government in Karnataka has constituted a nine member committee to design a 'state' flag — an identity symbol unique to the state — and submit a report on giving it legal sanctity. If such a flag does come into being, Karnataka will only be the second state in the country to officially have a flag of its own after Jammu & Kashmir, which enjoys special status under Article 370 of the Constitution.

The Siddaramaiah government is mooting a separate flag for the state, coinciding with pro-Kannada voices denouncing the alleged imposition of Hindi in the state. Former Karnataka chief minister and Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda dismissed the move, saying, "India is one nation and there cannot be two flags in one country."

Nothing wrong with states having their own flags .... I don't know why an issue is trying to be created out of this .... In Ind, new states also keep cropping up

Also don't understand the "imposition of Hindi" argument. Center has two official languages - Hindi and English (this has nothing to do with Ind having 22 official languages which many misconstrue and waste time by presenting faulty arguments), so should be advocating the usage of both. Ideally, Hindi, which is native. This does not undermine local languages

What imposition of Hindi?

What is wrong if a sign board has English Hindi and Kannada on it?

One Kannadiga gave an explanation to me that " Will they accept Kannadiga in Delhi Metro,  then why should we accept Hindi in Bangalore Metro?  "

Bunch of retards who think that there regional languages are on par with Hindi.

You must be the biggest retard if you think, for us, Hindi is on par with our native language or even with English, for that matter.

It doesn't matter what is of significance to you or not,  Hindi is significant to India. It is the connecting language for majority of Indians.

Who even speaks your Kannada outside your own state?  Now compare that to Hindi which has Little to Large presence all over India.

The anti-Hindi pro-Kannad protests erupted after the usage of Hindi language in the Namma metro rail signboards in the city. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah opposed the move saying most of the funds for Namma Metro came from the state and not the Centre.

Senior KRV member Sanneerappa opposed to Naidu's statement saying that if Hindi was so important, the central government should not depend on the taxes paid by southern states. The pro-Kannada activists have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of imposing Hindi in the southern state.

Hindi is mostly associated with the northern parts of India, it has no relevance here with people living in the South. Some of these regional languages are older than Hindi itself.

If you want to connect with other people in India, try learning their languages.

Yes, when we move to states where we have to manage with Hindi, we will learn or not impose that they learn my language Kannada. Same thing, if we keep accommodating for visitors and keep using Hindi, they (the visitors) will never learn kannada. They have started demanding usage of Hindi in banks, state government officies and also their support staff would now need to learn Hindi so they can get jobs in Karnataka,

No more of this nonsense. Let outsiders adapt to our kulcha and language, and we will not be so magnanimous and help them settle down in Karnataka by learning their language.

Pro-Kannada is not new and didn't start now with Metro signboards. It has been there since 1980s with Gokak report (google Gokak Chaluvali)

And ....Maga...
