sorry to say thats just bs . you dont pick 5 bowlers/batsmen based on how well the extra bat/bowler did in the last match . 

on a flat wicket you need an extra bowler and on bowler friendly pitches you need an extra batsmen , unless you have a world class AR in your ranks . Especially weaker opposition you should not need 6 batsmen , its easy to pile up runs but the flat wickets imply your bowlers could be over bowled .

Plain simple Kohli can't tolerate another all format champion in the team. He has now almost finished the career of kl.  Only change of power can save kl which is not going to happen for at least 4-5 years

I actually dont think hes got anything against KL or neither is he very insecure . KL will be around for sure , but priority are likes of Dhawan and Rohit .
