Series Predictor - Rule changes?

  1. 1. Do you want to see rules changes to the Series Predictor?

    • Change the points awarded for runs, wickets, catches, or run-outs
      0
    • Docking of points for dropped catches by nominated Fielder
    • Change the way the 25pts are awarded for a run-out, currently determined by the name(s) stated on Cricinfo scorecard
    • Strict adherence to poster choices or lack of - i.e. no last minute substitutes by me if players not in XI
    • Bonus points for a Batsman getting 50 and a Bowler getting a 4fer
    • Allow same Bowler to be picked for a maximum of 2 games, doesn't make sense to pick 6 different bowlers.
    • I like it just the way it is
    • Allow players from the other side too

I will suggest that the moment a batsman gets a 50 or a bowler takes a 4fer, give the person extra points(any number you can decide).

This will give people chance to come back in the competiton if they are far behind in the points table by 3rd or 4th ODI and will only keep the guy on top aware of how game can quickly change as others can cetch up.

Dock points for dropped catches classic example pappu, without docking points for his droooed catches, you could have made good points off of him. And maybe prevent WKs being selected as fielders, otherwise WK automatic pick without even thinking, takes the skill out of the game

Its a 6 match ODI series...so allow posters to select 1 player for 2 consecutive ODIs. So If I select Kohli-Bhuvi-Dhoni for 1st 2 ODIs. I cant have the same set of players for 3rd and 4th ODI. So on and so forth.

You cant have predictor for 6 games without repeating the players...it will be very difficult to find 6 bowlers.

Have the format as below:

Series predictor 1 (ODIs 1 & 2)

Series predictor 2 (ODIs 3 & 4)

Series predictor 3 (ODIs 5 & 6)

Interesting. Given you need min 5 bowlers in an ODI and the reasonable likelihood of some player rotation in the XI, I would have thought picking 6 different bowlers would be fairly doable. New option added to poll

Was this meant to be a multiple choice poll?

i suppose each 'suggestion' should have it's own yes/no poll, but i just lumped all the suggestions into one poll invited people to choose the one they feel most strongly about. what do you think?

What do people think of Austin's suggestion above (or similar)? As things stand everyone is going to basically choose the same 6 bowlers and batsmen it's just a question of which games you have them in, i.e. a game of combinations (still potentially exciting) rather than backing certain players over the course of a series.

The points system is fine. It's same for everyone. As I voted I think some poster get late entry or change teams if player is not selected or other such consideration, which then allow them to make decisions with clear hindsight.

Dropped catches calculation is too much. Expecting someone to watch all of test match just for prediction league is over the board expectation. LOL.

Hello Cric enthusiasts,

need some suggestions. if you are playing a cricket prediction game, what would you like to see on the home screen...e.g - leader board, best player, user info or something else? so in a nutshell...info that you want when you open an app...on home screen

That's all very interesting but maybe start a new thread.

I like the idea of allowing players from RSA. Over six ODIs you have to make 18 selections. I would suggest allowing 9 from each side.

Thoughts? New option added to poll

I like Austin's suggestion. Maybe divide the series in 2 legs...3 odis each...fresh selections after 3 matches. So there is no shortage of players. 6 diff batsman or bowlers will result in most people choosing same 6 players throughout the series. There will be less chance of different selection and hence less difference in scoring. Go with 2 legs of 3 ODIs each, I would say.

No issue in continuing with suggested point system as its same for everyone.

Also, agree on no changes after cutoff time. If someone misses it, they have to get 0 as penalty. Its unfair for others who take time out to get in before cutoff time.

Also, dropped catches are sometimes based on perspective, it can be controversial sometimes to judge which is a dropped catch and which is not.

If you want to add some spice, maybe you can add bonus points for MOM. You get 50 points of something if your player get MOM. Should not give too many points that it widens the gap by huge amount but just something extra to get back in game.

Adding other things will surely make it interesting like 50 or 100 or 5fer or choosing a captain, etc. But that will be lot of extra work for you, you will basically be converting this into what fantasy cricket/SS type of scoring. I would rather keep it simple.

Thanks Shunya.

Ok I'm going to go with just one rule change. Players from the other side will be allowed too. As before you can have players more than once but not in the same category.
