Performances of Batsmen

Recommended Posts

Taking conditions into count, we lost 2 wickets more than expected upfront. The ball was seaming around even in slog overs.

Also there is a fair bit of novelty factor against Pakistani bowling attack. The more we play them, the better we will fare against them each time. On a flat deck I expect our batsmen to put them under pressure.

Gill has lots and lots of work to do if he wants to reach anywhere near the level people expected him to back in 2021 after his debut series in Australia..

He has so many weaknesses i don't know how he got to this stage and how he managed to mask them in age group and lower tier cricket as it doesn't need an international level analyst to pick out the obvious chinks in his armour.

Shreyas Iyer, gets a lot of flak for his short ball problems ( which he is working on ).

But he is one of the better players of spin in India, and this gets ignored quite often.

Today's pitch is very helpful to spinners.

And Shreyas has delivered a masterclass along with Kohli.

yes, but that short ball issue will follow him everywhere, especially outside SC.

hopefully some of next gen players will handle it better: jaiswal, tilak, sudharshan, rinku, dhull, etc

Jaiswal is the real deal.

Talented and and does NOT play for himself.

Tough nut and a fighter.  We need players like him if we want to win big tournaments.

Needs to play every format.

Usually I don't agree for this, but for Jaiswal I can agree.

He looks more complete and assured than Gill, who is bogged down by the spin.

Jaiswal vs Gill will be the next Virat vs Rohit.

Rinku Singh .. another fighter and tough nut.

Cool as ice.

Temperamentally very strong.

Best finisher we have seen in a long time.

Rinku and Jaiswal looked like have proper t20 approach, though they lack big hitting T20 power game or innovative shot making, but have kind of intent needed.

Ind should have played whole new team in last T20 WC after having such a poor wc in 2019. If they have to lose lose it with new player atleast you will find 2/3 new players.

Been hearing that Kolhi, Sharma, Iyer in some combination can make a come back in T20I (atleast fr this WC).

Would argue that Ind should no longer plat even Bhumra in T20Is, Ind lacks power hitter too have been playing T20 cricket of 5/6 back

We will have the same old players for next T20 WC. expecting to see the following "legend" team:

1. kela (wk)

2. hitman

3. Kohli

4. Iyer/Rahane (they will find a way to bring back the Mumbai Midget)

5. SKY

6. Pandu

7. Jaddu

8. prasidh

9. mukesh

10. undercutter

11. arshdeep

Probably the best innings played by KL Rahul in his cricket career so far.

Tough batting conditions in SA with some balls rearing up unnaturally from length, generally bouncy pitch and consistent swing and seam movement available. 4 tall pacers bowling.

India losing 3 early wickets and in trouble

Masterful knock of 101 off just 137 balls with the right mix of aggression and caution. 4 sixes off pacers were awesome.

Each and every player of ours in this test match is an all format player including Ashwin on his last legs. We will not do well in overseas with these type of players period. Pay some of these lesser stars more to let them stick to just IPL and stop picking them for all three formats. Likes of Gill ( for now ), Jaiswal, Rahul, Siraj should never get picked for T20Is.. I don't mind seeing the ultra superstars like Rohit, Kohli, Bumrah in all three formats but not the less fancied stars.  Also bracket players under 2 formats - those who are suitable for T20Is + ODIs and ODIs + Tests.. there should not be a player who will get picked in Tests & T20Is at the sametime ( again leave out superstars VK/RS/JB ). Picking Shardul/Mukesh/Prasidh and even Siraj in tests shows the level to which our stocks have fallen.  How did we make Prasidh debut in SA directly is a mystery. Even a goat like Bumrah struggled in his debut test first innings.

Gill and Iyer's dismissals seems to indicate that they are both still in ODI mode. Jaiswal too was being a bit too flashy in his strokeplay for an overseas debutant trying to hit on the up through covers. You look at how many of the Saf batsmen played and they were very compact. Kohli even in the 2nd innings was trying to feel for balls on the 6th stump but I won't criticize him too much for it.
