Performances of Batsmen

I think we need a thread to track the performances of our batsmen, just like we do with pacers.

 

Indian batters had  put up a spirited fight on a minefield in Johannesburg 2018 against Rabada, Philander, Morkel and Ngidi and we won.

Kohli   54   and  41

Rahane   48

Pujara    50

Vijay batted for 127 balls in the 2nd innings

Bhuvi    30  and  33

Shami  27

 

Where has that fight gone now  ?   No one is fighting apart from Kohli.

 

We should think back about this test ...  develop belief ...  and fight really really hard.

 

The game is not lost till it is actually lost  !

Rahul has disappointed the most in the last 4 tests out of Asia.  He is one of the best young batting talents we have.

 

10.  4,  0,  16,  4,  13,  8,  10

 

He can surely do better than this.

 

An average of 37.7,  after all of 26 tests, belies his talent.

I want Pujara to showcase his staying ability in this innings.

 

If he can help us save this test match, it will do his confidence a world of good.

Rahane was batting really well but threw his wicket away poking at a ball outside off.

Shameful performances from the batsmen again. Vijay, KL, DK, Rahane all seem to have forgotten how to bat. Who are their replacements in this squad? Nair doesn't inspire much confidence. Dhawan and Pujara have been poor overseas. Pant over DK next match is no brainer. Not expecting any miracles from Pant but surely he will be an upgrade over DK.

Better to bring in youngsters.  Even if they fail like this lot, they will learn from it and be done with the first tour blues.

Nah these youngsters like Pant and Shaw will become a part of the system too and take the advantage of current horrible state of The team and have fun without any accountability.

Sangakkara saying that batting has never been easy in this test match. The ball has always done something.

 

He found it really creditable that the Indian batsmen could bat well here.

tremendous effort in this match in these conditions.

 

We could have done much better in the first 2 tests if we had 2 more practice matches with the red ball.

Rahul has looked circumspect in most innings this year in test matches.   His footwork has been indecisive and he does not look confident.

 

Needs to work on the mental aspect of the game.  Don't know whether he is being affected by his ODI exclusions, but professional cricketers need to get over all this.

 

He can't afford to fail in tests in India after horrible SA and England tours.

Kohli has not looked fully fit to me right from the time he has had lower back pains in the 2nd test vs Australia.

 

Keeps flicking and glancing leg stump balls in the air and getting out.  He is probably not bending down enough to straighter balls.  Looked very off colour in the last 4 test innings, despite scoring a critical 82 in one of them.

 

He should have been rested ... got fully fit ... and come back.

it is a trend. and yes, VK is looking like a pale shadow. Given our "great" injury management skills, I'm expecting VK and Shami (maybe also Bumrah) to break down in WC and to see a 1st round exit from us.

Impressed with the way Mayank Agarwal attacked Nortje, bowling express, with hook and pull shots.

 

Nortje bowled a bouncer barrage, on a pitch with some pace and carry, to Mayank.  And the young batsman played 4 impeccable hook and pull shots, three of which went for boundaries.

 

I always like players who are all-condition players ... batsmen who are good both on the front foot and back foot and can tackle both pace and spin. Mayank is moving in this direction.

 

He had issues both with the short ball as well as the off-stump ball ... but seems to have worked on both aspects.

 

Loving his attitude of working on his weaknesses and his hunger for big runs.
