Where do you rank Kohli's this performance among great performances by Indian batsmen?

That team had our best batting line up in our history.  This team does not.

I thought you rated our current batsmen highly and said it's the conditions which are causing havoc and anybody in the world would struggle?

here conditions and pressure was far higher than most of those. Knocks that win you game are always rated higher especially overseas.  Multan, Rawalpindi all those were still in subcontinent and flat pitches.  I will always rate a SENA country knock higher than them.  Viru's 201 against SL was great because of the conditions and bowling attack.  Same in this case.  An attack of Anderson and Broad in these conditions is as good as Murli-Mendis in those conditions.   Here too we were 80/3 and were going the same path of first two tests, could easily have been dismissed below 200 in first innings.

Multan, Rawalpindi were played under enormous pressure. We had never won a test in Pak before Multan, forget series. Also was the 1st test tour there in 15 years with immense hype. Viru and RD didn't just get 100s, they got 309 and 270 respectively.

This is best bowling attack equal to Laxman 96 in SA.They got thrashed and England was going for kill with Andy is top form. This has to be among the top by any batsmen given the circumstance. IF you take Kohli's 200 out India is losing this match.

Kohli has been by far the best batsman from both sides in two overseas tours, how many times has an Indian batsman been the best batsman from both sides in low scoring series.

difficult to rate because of several such  knocks available. Any way superb  pair of knocks because it came at a very critical phase(0-2 down)  of the tour.

Again very hard to decide the criteria for great knocks too because 'win' need not always decide that. For instance take Sachin's 146 in SAF.  India was chasing a 362 with series at 1-1 . If Sachin flopped IND would have been bundled out for a low score  and even lost the series 2-1. Similarly his 68 & 119*  in ENG saved the test  and instead of a humiliating 2-0 loss earned a respectable 1-0 loss. Similarly

Dravid's 148 in SAF in 1996, if not for the weather would have fetched a victory there by  giving a 1-0 respectable loss rather than actual 2-0 loss. Like wise if we dig deeper many more such knocks can be found out.So  a bit difficult to even decide the basic criteria for top knocks.

This is best performance becuase he did well in both innings and was the anchor around which the innings was built.I am still mad that he could not get the job done in first test.

Kohli has to get his team over the line in chasing fourth innings targets, he is 0-3 till now.

233 & 72* Dravid vs Australia at Adelaide oval.

Dravid's twin  centuries at Eden Gardens against Pakistan.

It is mark of a champion who is not content with producing in just one innings.

That's like asking question how many times Indian bowling has rolled over opposition consistently in a series.

Bowlers get bad rightfully so but batsmen have rarely have bailed them out. On occasions bowlers did their job batsmen failed to back them too.

In a sense yes, but even if he couldn't finish it in the first test, that would be his best knock along with the one in South Africa, mainly because of the conditions.
