Kohli's knock in this test isnt better than any of these knocks.

This is not even Kohli's top 5 test knocks.

1. Adelaide

2. Centurion

3. Edgbaston

4. Joberg 2013 first innings

5. 49 against NZ pacers on an uneven bounce pitch

Love that Joberg knock....absolute flawless innings

How many from this list were captains? That surely add extra pressure as a batsman.

Laxman Kolkata

Dravid Kolkata

Dravid Headingley

Dravid Adelaide

Sehwag Multan

Dravid Rawalpindi

Sehwag Galle

Laxman Mohali

Laxman Durban

Sachin Cape Town

See from the top of my head just 10 by Fab 4 alone in 2000s. If I invest some more time I can recollect a few more (eg Gambhir's Napier stonewalling or VVS 2006 Jo'berg........). Now if you consider the entire history of Indian cricket, we will easily find 30+ such batting performances. Kohli was magnificent here but not sure if this was conclusively better than Rahane/Vijay (Lord's green mamba) or Rahul's Bengaluru 2017 feat. * that, I'd argue that Kohli's performances in 2013 Jo'berg, 2014 Adelaide and Edgbaston this series were qualitatively superior.

not really, you need to look at the conditions and the situation as well. 2-0 behind. Few years back, if were were 2-0 behind overseas, a whitewash was a certainty.

Yes really, all those knocks were high pressure ones. I looked at the conditions and situations before listing them.

His knock in the first innings was a crucial one and a match winning one because he knew at 82/3 that he had to take the whole team's responsibility on his own and did that job to perfection .but both the innibgs are not even in his top 5 knocks because he didn't have to face the new ball or come at 20/2 type of situations

Our test team before dhoni's 8-0 era also used to comeback from behind in a test series , England 2002 ,Australia 2007 ,saf 2010 are a few examples .

gotta say the character that this team has shown after the lords hammering is quite remarkable but we've got to remember this England side ain't a good front runner . they somehow let loose of the foot on the opposition's throat and allow them space to comeback ,be it against aus in ashes 2015 ,pak in 2016, Windies 2017 ,saf 2017 ,nzl 2015 etc etc

here conditions and pressure was far higher than most of those. Knocks that win you game are always rated higher especially overseas.  Multan, Rawalpindi all those were still in subcontinent and flat pitches.  I will always rate a SENA country knock higher than them.  Viru's 201 against SL was great because of the conditions and bowling attack.  Same in this case.  An attack of Anderson and Broad in these conditions is as good as Murli-Mendis in those conditions.   Here too we were 80/3 and were going the same path of first two tests, could easily have been dismissed below 200 in first innings.

That team had our best batting line up in our history.  This team does not.
