Is Vijay Shankar the worst Indian player ever to be picked in WC squad ?

That’s exactly my point. Rayudu May look like a hack but he managed to get 90 runs where as Shankar got an elegant 40. At the end those 50’runs mattered.

in that innings vijay was looking better, rayudu was struggling

now that unfortunate run out shudnt go against him.........rayudu has had his chances

People have so much hate for Rayudu that they started blaming him for Shankar’s runout in that game but if you watch the dismissal, it was actually Shankar’s brain fart.

whoever fault it was...........point is he was playing well and not looked like getting out

no it wasnt a brain fart.....was just unlucky

Shankar has looked good on cameos but at the end of the day runs matter. I would take Steve Smith any day over an elegant Rahul

He hasnt had chances to score ...n whatever he got he showed more quality then rayudu

I mean that guy has had so many years to show and yet no one is convinced.....whose fault is that

If anything i was a fan of rayudu in the effort he use to put in field which now has also gone missing .

If a game is stuck against - aus, sa  ill trust shankar more then rayudu and about rayudu being a guarntee sucess against minnows....dnt worry high chances we wnt get stuck against them. No way rayudu cant score against them...no way

This is the problem in some people's mentality. They believe more in what a player could achieve or their supposed "ability" versus anything tangible. This is the same mindset of thinking anyone out of the side is better than the one currently playing.

the problem with ppl is jumping on conclusion so soon, biggest of the biggest players took hell lot of time to make it big

His bowling skills are on par with Virat Kohli, if not worse. If they are looking for an all rounder, even Krunal Pandya would have been a much better option.

Didn't he win a ODI by defending 8 or 9 runs in the last over including removing the set Stoinis? How the heck is pie chucker Krunal is a better option.

Now is not the time to allow such players to find themselves. Its the World Cup. You select the best who can deliver, not ones who could do it at some point in the future.

no player is settled so TM has boughht that time on themselves

at this point shankar is ahead in given chances........who else wud u give a chance who promises to deliver better as no one is settled so who is the player who gives that assurance

1 match is all takes to make it to World Cup squad ? His career otherwise has stank of mediocrity. What's more he seems to be a mental midget. Absolutely bottles it under pressure. Just look at his batting whenever runs dry up even a bit because he is not very good at finding boundaries. He starts slogging and holes out. This is pretty much how he gets out in every game, whether in IPL or ODIs.

Pant, Saini or even Gill would have been infinitely better options than this bozo. He got picked because of probably some connections and because he is supposedly an "all rounder".

He bowled two straight deliveries honing on the stumps under pressure. He is not a T20 player. Unless you have evidence he is doing the same in List A or one dayers it is moot to dismiss his credentials. Sure he is not a pedigree batsman like Rahul or Gill or Agarwal. But they are again another one dimensional player who are of very little value to the team. India needs a 6th bowling option badly. Available options are Jaddu, Jadhav, Shankar.  You don't expect India to go in with 5 pure bowlers one of them being pandya do you? That will be a disaster.  Among the three I expect Jadhav to feature in the XI assuming he is our 6th bowler  Rahul at no.4 or KKD in place of him.  This is all about balance. Blame the batsmen who cant bowl and bowlers who can't bat. Never seen such a set of batsmen who can't do well in more than one area. Back then we had Sehwag, Raina, Yuvraj, Tendulkar all could bowl. Now tell me which guy can be used as a filler?  Shankar bats at no.7 even for his state. Jadhav never bowled in first class that frequently. They are expected to more than they can do. It all boils down to our ultimate inability of our batsmen/bowlers who can't do zilch outside their specialist area including fielding. We are using Kohli as a reference for best fielder. Things have gone that bad.

Please cut out this 1 dimensional 3 dimensional crap. His bowling is no better than 3rd grade. Kohli will do just as good a job as he does. Even SRH doesnt use his bowling, that's how crap he is. He will be easy pickings for world class batsman.

His FC average doesnt mean anything when he doesnt have the skills to be a good limited overs batsman. He is not good at rotating strike, struggles to find boundaries or clear the boundary. He cant do well under pressure and goes for airy fairy shots and holes out. This is his ability in a nutshell.

3rd grade bowler >>> 6th grade bowling option we have in case one of the bowler breaks down or gets cartered around.

He is not good at rotating strike? What are you talking about. That was one of his biggest strength in the one dayers. He was as good as Kohli if not better.  Even in the last IPL 2018 he had the least dot ball percentage. Obviously you have seen very very very little of him should i say?

And if ur saying they have ability ur contradicting urself

Rotating strike means not taking singles when field is spread out. Even a grandma would do that. He struggles to take singles or find gaps when fielders are attacking. Dot ball percentage is less because he takes singles when the need is to go for boundaries. You can see when he is batting while chasing, his strike rate would be 100 or even less, then goes for a slog as required run rate climbs up and gets out.

No Grandma can't do that. Grandma's bone will be broken into pieces by Rabada or any other fast bowler. You clearly are talking about rotating the strike. That means he is able to get to the other end. Not hitting boundaries. He is not a slogger. He can find boundaries through timing and score at a decent clip. Did you watch the one day game against Australia. He was outscoring, outpacing Kohli in that partnership. He was playing in the middle overs. You are expecting him to hit sixes and fours there? I guess you have seen probably couple of IPL innings of Shankar this season. Not the NZ ODI series or Austrlaia ODI series. Atleast be honest with your observations.

I would say Shankar has done pretty much nothing in international cricket. In fact, he has only shown he is severely lacking to be either a good bowling or batting option. So if we are picking someone among these, those who have shown better ability in FC, IPL, List A as a specialist batsman or bowler should be ahead. These bits and pieces cricketers will never actually deliver. Pick a player who is a specialist at something and if he brings more to the table, then its great.

then u didnt see international games

Watch his 40+ against NZ n Aus when we were in bother, he looked better then kohli

He won us the game with ball with around 10 runs to defend

Shankar is a specialist batsman who can also bowl ......ur info that he is bits n pieces is absolutely wrong so dnt quote FC . Sorry to tell u knowledge is limited to IPL which is not even a 50 over format. Had u watched India-A tour of NZ he was our best batsman and hence he pushed his case in Pandya absence. That A tour had most upcoming good batsman

Yeah right, specialist batsman who has to wildly slog whenever he is under pressure. He is not a specialist ODI batsman that's for sure.
