And it was also counted as a boundary. What is the point of that sorry. As a neutral it feels NZ were robbed. Rules are rules. Stokes was within them. Hand-balling a goal is against the rule, so Maradona was violating a rule. Stokes is not the problem. Giving the boundary was not the problem. Giving 6 instead of 5? That was the problem, and there's no way for Stokes to have known that in that instant. He did nothing wrong. Reddysaab 1
Deleted_User_1 Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 (edited) Maradona cheated. Stokes didn’t. Big difference. However, the sheer incompetence of Adharmasena et al and ICC cheated NZ of a WC title. There should have been 5 runs and don’t get me started on the stupid super over tie rule! He's still happy about cheating 30 years on. Stokes dived to make the run and was not even looking at the ball when it was being thrown back to the wicket keeper. He then apologised to the New Zealand team. No it makes perfect sense. Stokes didn't do it deliberately and it was the sheer amount of luck which helped England get 6 "free runs". It was as if God was on their side. So yes it was " Bat of God" if you think about it.

The original poster was comparing what Stokes did to Maradona's act of deliberate cheating. They are poles apart. I admit England got a hell of a lot of good fortune on Sunday but none of it was through dishonest means. Also it was 4 'free runs', they had already run 2.
