Looked him up on Cricinfo. Seems like he'll miss out on the next U19 WC due to being over 19? The other Tyagi (Purnank) doesn't nearly seem as promising.

Over 19 can play. ICC do have age limit that allow players over 19 to play if one is born within that limit.

It’s sad to know that he wasn’t in the original list of the team to UK, that’s baffling, seems he is the only bowler doing some real damage & he was overlooked, that tells something about the selection committee. There are many visitors in the current U19 team & some strong performers are not selected, have no clue why.

This batting side is weak and they should not be too rigid and must pick Riyan Parag and Aryan Juyal to strengthen the batting. Both played last u19 WC but still eligible to play next WC.

I wonder if Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide can also play U19 WC. if so, they should also be in the mix to strengthen batting. both are multi-faceted: singh can bat as keeper in lower middle order and taide can bowl a bit in addition to batting in top order. with juyal, parag, garg, and maybe taide, jaiswal, singh it will be a pretty good top 6 although perhaps not on the same level as gill-shaw team.

Even Abhishek Sharma could still be eligible for this U19 WC.  He will turn 19 in September, so, might still be eligible.  Right now, I do not know what is the cut off date for eligibility.  Prabhsimran will turn 19 on August 10. Atharva Taide may not qualify as he turned 19 in April.  Cut off date may be anywhere in July, August or September of 2000.  So players born before wont be eligible.

Dravid initiated the policy of not playing guys who have already featured in prior editions of the U19 WC. So don't think Abhishek will play even if he is eligible.

Obviously he will not be given opportunities. Bhuvanesh Kumar and Shami have to bowl for India in all of our matches else how can we win meaningless bilateral matches that even teams like West Indies don't take seriously and try out new guys...

This kid is still plying his trade in the U19 circles. He is a long way off from Indian senior team [like 3 years away]. Lots of others who are much closer. Lets hope Saini grabs his chances. Avesh, Mavi, Nagarkotti, and Prasidh are in line too. Ishant and Shami are on ther last legs and will be done on another 2 years.

You're expecting too much from brainless idiots. Mavi and Nagarkoti will be brought in after 5 years when the pace has dropped from 145 to 135. Fast bowlers have to be picked when they're raw and pacy. Spinners should be picked when they are experienced and wily. In India the exact opposite happens. No wonder we suck at bowling.

yes, I forgot about abhishek. although dravid and co won't play previous U19 players, having the likes of parag, juyal and abhishek would be helpful for the batting order. also Prabhsimran. they should also play siddharth desai if possible. he has lots of domestic experience by U19 standards.

But they should not be rigid about the policy. What if they can't put up a strong squad then they must go back to those players who are still eligible but have played u19 WC.

If that happens then it's shameful. We cat even put up a strong team at u19 level with billion population following just 1 or 2 sport.

Ishant is only 30 and is a very fit bowler as he rarely gets injured. He would last more than 2 years.

It's not so simple because u19 WC has a cut off age. Many players who played last  for India u19 last year are not eligible this year while some of them are still playing u19 for their states but they can't play WC so your selection pool decreases.  Example Arjun Tendulkar who does not qualify for u19 but still plays Mumbai u19 and played India U19 last year. Also putting a strong WC winning every year isn't easy.
