A WC every 2 years means every team focuses only on playing as many List A matches as they can. No wonder many of these u-19 superstars struggle with the transition to FC cricket. raki05 1

sandeep Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 These games have shown that the u19 pacers aren't nearly as good as the Mavi, Porel, Nagarkoti batch. They have played supporting roles across the 6+ games - all games have seen the spinners do the heavy lifting. One good thing is that the coaching staff seems to be making a concerted effort to distribute top order batting opportunities - They could easily have kept Jaiswal and Garg in the top 3 but they did not. You see the Saxenas, Tilak Vermas, consistently getting extended top order chances. Good to see. Tilak seems like he's well suited to a #5/6 basher role, but has been given a long rope to learn how to build longer innings. He hasn't quite gotten his momentum right, and seems to be batting with extra caution, and then gets himself out stepping through the gears. But that's fine. That's what these games are for. Kartik and Akash haven't looked penetrative at all. Hegde and Bishnoi are good backup spinners. I remember we were criticizing the selection of so many spinners considering South African conditions but it might prove to be a smart move eventually.

A lot of spinner wickets are due to ineptitude of SA batsmen - getting bowled and LBW on straight ones. That's why you see even part-time 'spinners' who turn their arm over - Jaiswal, Tilak, etc all are getting wickets and early in their spells. The SA batsmen simply aren't equipped to handle spin. Throw in a 'new' bowler and they are all at sea. But against teams with a couple of batsmen who can handle spin well, this bowling attack will find itself under pressure.

Forward Defence Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 Part of the reason for the Pacers ineffectiveness might be the conditions of the Durban pitch these days. It has turned into a slow and lifeless pitch, a far cry from the speedy bouncy Durban of the 90s. SA have lost matches at Durban and Port Elizabeth against mediocre subcontinent teams recently Suhaan, Mosher and express bowling 1 2

Bowled some good short balls and hit a batsman on the ribs with one, even on a slow pitch. In the first match, his good length balls were sharper than yesterday. Mosher 1

They all play 3 day matches in Cooch Behar trophy in domestic cricket.

Saw Patil get some lateral movement against Ban in the Asia cup final. Maybe a good option with the new ball in swinging conditions. But such conditions are hard to come by these days Mosher 1
