Coz these are the only seaming all rounder avl

And shankar was excellent last Nz a tour n made runs when given a chance for national team to

They wud be looking at him as seaming all rounder for test in squad since pandya wnt reach that fitness.

Not able to make out this all rounder  fetish , that too to a player who has no history of taking even couple of wickets in first class games regularly.

We are simply diluting the quality of test team by this ALL ROUNDER OBSESSION .

Would be OK if Hardik was the guy with full fitness  for this NZ series  , but no way Shankar.

Just go with 4 pacers and 1 spinner . Period !

Why we do not believe 4 quality pacers will knock out opposition. If they can't , do you believe Shankar can ?

Shankar is NOT an all rounder in FC cricket.

As a specialist middle order batsman, Ankit Bawne, Mandeep, An,olpreet or Manish Pandey have better claim than Shankar.

he is a batsman who bowls and his bowling can be useful in seaming condition like how NZ uses CDGH

No none of them have better claims then him in test cricket

mandeep has one of the worse techniques thats why he cudnt make use of of india A chances

Bawne has lost out on India-A now

Anmolpreet is struggling with consistency after 1 good season

manish doesnt have technique for test

Shankar for ur info avg 66 in Last NZ A tour in red ball n was highest scorer in ODI which had manish, iyer, mayank, gill and bowlers like lockie.

This is India A team. Not India senior team. There is nothing wrong in experimenting there. Jadeja will be playing the all rounder role alongwith Ashwin. 3 main seamers will be there.

Top 3 delivered in several earlier matches.  Only difference is these guys are available to play even after the world cup. If they wifail l they could get kicked out. But Pandya can come in whenever he wants, he can take rest whenever he wants. Nobody is going to do anything

You wrote crucial stage.

In the last 2 big 50 over events Pandya has been much better than top 3 with bat

coz the job in test cricket is to bowl those 10-15 overs to give seamers rest specially in flat conditions

Its not about knocking out but resting and having some backup in case of injury remember how ashwin got injured in england and pandya was there.

4 pacer + 1 spinner

3 pacer + spinner+ 1 all rounder

Both are fine but im always in favour of having 5th bowler to give seamers rest. Vihari also is fine since he can bowl .  Bumrah is coming from an injury and u never knw with shami n Ashwin .

Shankar is a way better batsman then many in domestic n his bowling is some what like CDGH whom NZ use very well. Same shankar played cruical knocks in ODI against NZ n Aus. Shankar avg 66 in Last NZ A tour in red ball n was highest scorer in ODI which had manish, iyer, mayank, gill and bowlers like lockie.

So most likely it will be shankar vs Vihari (if shankar gets selected)- ill choose shankar coz he plays short bowling well n vihari struggles n they have wagner.

You do need someone who can bowl a few overs even if not take wickets. He is a batsman plus part time bowler.

Pandya wasn't picked straight away for India. He had to prove himself through India A again. He wasn't picked for Indian team NZ tour.

Why you require a bowler to give rest to pacers ?  4 pacers will easily bowl 15 overs . Spinner will hold 1 end up . and even if some one needs rest , it will around 60+ overs . You already have Vihari for that.

Again argument that in seaming conditions Shankar is kind of useful. Why quality pacers like Saini, Shami , Bhumra , Ishant not finish the job if its

seaming.  I would love to see NZ team surviving 100 overs consistently against these 4 , if its a bowler friendly wicket.

I bet  NZ will not prepare bowling friendly wickets .

Coz in India Spinner can do the bulk overseas they cant

And if ur playing 4 bowler which is 3 seamer n one spinner

3 seamer 15 over each is 45 overs

Spinner lets say 30

It still is 75 overs...

Thats why most teams have now 5th bowling option and u shud have someone as backup in case of injury. None of our batsman roll arm apart from vihari

if its vihari vs shankar ill take shankar coz i like his batting better against short bowling

thats fine i said 4 pacer + 1 spinner is 5 bowlers

Im ok with 5 bowling options

NZ wkts have become flat specially when we got it ll be end of season for them.

Do not agree including someone in the X1 to give rest to other bowlers . 5 bowlers more than enough . No team will think of going with 6 bowling options.  You cannot  think of injury in every test and think of providing cover for that.

Since wickets are expected to be flat , how Shankar's bowling  is going to have impact ?  Still feel stick with 4 pacers + 1 spinner +Vihari.

Shankar is atleast one tier below to Vihari re: batting . The guy has proven it domestic year after year , proven it in whatever tests he played after        Aus series .

I do not think Vihari is not the same now as he was in Aus .

So m also saying 5 not 6

IF jadeja plays as all rounder then no one among vihari or shankar plays

ur getting confused

I said im ok with 4 pacer + 1 spinner

and even 3 pacer+ 1 spinner+Vijay

Coz in both cases we have 5 bowlers

About shankar bowling, there is still some help for such bowlers in NZ n ENG , CDGH is an xample

Shankar also has done well in domestic n Did very well last NZ A tour in both red ball n white ball

Vihari also was struggling against bouncer in Eng that to against stokes, i dont think that issue can be rectified so soon

vijay is ur 5th bowler incase of injury he can cover up a bit , we also cant go with a bowler coz overseas u need a bit of batting

this is why pandya also came in picture

or else it wud be jadeja

Im fine with both options , m not to worried about jadeja batting in NZ

We went with 4 specialist bowlers in the test series in Australia and the WI.

I am glad they picked Shankar. Yes Dube made the most of opportunities he got but to me Shankar appeared smarter bowler and definitely better batsman.

Shankar has better technique as compared to Dubey. Even his fielding is better than Dubey. Bowling of Dubey is better though than Shankar's, but that doesn't say much.

Shankar isn't there to have impact but to give main bowlers rest.

With 4 pacers and 1 spinner and vihari what is the need of this new phenomenon of "Rest bowler" .

This has not happened in the recent past

It is usually ...

3 Pacers + 2 Spinners

Or

3 Pacers + 1 Spinner + Vihari

I want in tests in NZ  or. SENA

6. Jadeja. ( averaging 50 in 23 tests in the last 3 years )

7. Pant

8. Ishant / Kuldeep

9. Shami / Kuldeep

10. Saini

11. Bumrah

Unless green top.  Then play Vihari in place of the 4th pacer Ishant / Shami.
