Only logic for not playing Saini is....

Got to disagree with the 2nd sentence.  LOI bowling and Test bowling are different.  Saini is an attacking bowler whose aggression may ruin his LOI figures, but the same aggression will reap test rewards.  Now, if you mean that he must get some practice in a couple of LOIs so he can gauge the conditions etc., sure.  But not "prove himself."

LOI and Test bowling are certainly different but when you see a bowler bowling at the international level consistently, you get a good idea of how they can handle pressure, of their match fitness and whether or not they belong at this level.

If you want to debut a relatively new bowler in tests it should at least be done in home tests where the conditions are familiar.

But Saini should have debuted against WI in test series at home but even there they played Ishant/Umesh.

Moreover, Umesh Yadav's away bowling stats are much worse than his home stats.  So, playing him abroad is not automatic.

Just for fun, I'd love to see this test team in NZ - long tail, but a shudder-worthy Indian pace battery.

Agarwal

Rahul

Pujara

Kohli

Rahane

Saha

I. Sharma

Shami

Yadav

Bumrah

Saini

Ishant is injured.

the bowling attack is more likely to be Ashwin, Shami, Bumrah, Saini/Umesh. Unless Kohli is thinking of going in with 4 pacers and no spinner?
