Bye Bye ODIs

till 2022 at least as the focus would be on the two T20 WCs and WTC. While some rotation is acceptable (and to be match fit), should India risk playing its key pace bowlers, who are most injury prone, in the format over the next 2 years? What should be Ind's squad selection strategy for ODIs for the period? I don't recall the future tour schedule but hope that BCCI too focuses on the other two formats in this period.

(The thread title may remind you of one of the IPL threads :p: )

yes i was thinking same , our focus wud be on next 2 t20s WC and that may impact the strategy of ODI cricket for 2023

for eg considering someone like deepak chahar in ODI based on t20s , he is good in t20 but not ODI

We ll play these in between ODI series which they wont use to phase out someone like jadhav coz ODI wont be a focus

This also may have its up to it like in terms of aggressive batting, due to t20 dhawan might get phased out , IPL captaincy of Rohit sharma might start to push his case for next Wc incase we fail in another Wc which we will for sure

Whatta dumb schedule. Could have been a 3 or even a 4 test series instead of these meaningless ODIs and what was the point of the Aus odi series?

Could have had a 3 test series vs 2 as the series is a part of WTC and Ind can take time to get going in a series

For the NZ ODI series, one strategy can be to use it to prepare for the tests by playing those who are expected to be in the test squad and resting some of the fast bowlers :dontknow:

In before @putrevus I don’t think anyone is missing out :dontknow:

Rohit,Kohli,Bumrah,Shami,Jadeja are all starting X1 in tests

Rahane,Chepu,Mayank, Umesh, Ashwin,Vihari,Saha are not part of LOIs

Pant,Kuldeep,Saini  need to get a shot now.

Bumrah and Shami can be rested though (or play 1 game) as we need them to fire at full steam in tests. Jadeja too if he needs a break. However, the batsmen expected to be in the test squad should all play at least in a couple of games

The 4 Nation ODI tournament ... featuring India, Australia. England and another team ... would be very big from next year onwards.

4 big teams playing ODIs, in a multination tournament, is the key here.

It does not sound like an ICC event.  Where is it going to be hosted?

India. Yes. It's not an ICC tournament.

Oh ok. That is another BCCI event. This discussion is more from the WC and WTC perspective.

But it will be an important tournament for us.

Had such events in the past as well such as Nehru Cup, Titan Cup, etc., when there was only ODI WC. Now these tourneys can't be compared with a WC and WTC, IMO,  where all top teams participate. I would rate a test series (also now part of WTC) with Eng and Aus a lot higher.

Not going into comparisons.

But ODIs won't be forgotten due to this tournament.

The topic is more about selection strategies for the next two years as ODIs will take a back seat till 2022

Our TM do not / can not demarcate between T20Is and ODIs.

So, most of the same players will play both.
