Pitch looks green. Not sure if it is live grass which helps with movement.  Looks good for batting so far.

Saini is a decent T20 bowler. NOt even an established ODI bowler yet. Throwing him in the deep end on these flat wickets where he is not even half as good as Woakes or Archer will be a recipe for disaster.  At some level he should have bowled some magical spell anywhere. I have not seen anything like this.  Wish we had atleast Bhuvi here. His pace will be suitable for NZ conditions. 130 to 135k.

We have no other options at this point without Ishant. He is the only choice. Saini is unproven even at ODI level let alone Test level.

Rat's captaincy will be tested where fast bowling will not be useful on day 2, 3, ,4 5.  He has to juggle the spinners very well. He has to understand the situation and quickly rotate the bowlers. Not with fixed mind set  25 overs to seamers on the trot.

you are probably right,none of the younger players are taking the place in the side and making sure to never let go.

Sandeep warrier could have been tried. He was very economical on those absolute belters. picked up 4 wickets in 2 matches.

Who is established in 5 games ??? 

Without playing how does someone get established . 

Dravid, ganguly, mayank, rahul all were thrown in deep end, u cant keep them in comfort whole life. In india nyways u play 2 pacer by that logic he ll never play. 

 

Umesh is an established failure outside india atleast thats proven. With umesh u knw he ll screw up but saini is unknwn ...always better to try something new then a proven failure. Today again he has leaked runs with new ball.

 

What magic spell u expect in LOI format where its already hard for bowler.

Saini is a  good defensive bowler. When batsmen try to attack he will get wickets.  Umesh did start well in Australia reducing Australia for 24/3 in his first series. He was not a total failure. Saini has not even done anything worthwhile in domestic. or ODI or T20 or India A. He became famous because of his excellent defensive bowling for RCB.  How can we expect him to do well against international batsmen at test level.  Deepak Chahar is likely to have a better test career than Saini because of the length he bowls and swing he gets.
