Nostalgia: SRT's best ODI knock!

Given the context and the world stage, this is his best knock, IMO. He may have played better knocks in terms of quality of shots, attacks faced, etc, but nothing beats this one. Can Chokohli match this?

I would also rate his 98 vs Pakistan higher than Sharjah knock. But not by a big margin.

 

He forced Pakistan bowlers to bowl defensive line and lengths after the initial run fest where they made some 90 odd runs after 10 overs (Unheard of in 2003). Waqar and Wasim didn't even bowl a single yorker, they had to switch to run saving mode.

This match was a classic example of the Pak bowling machine getting spanked. It also shows the value of a strong middle order with Yuvi leading the pack, something Indian team has lacked once Yuvi fell off the radar. When Sachin got out, India could have still lost the match from there, if not for the calmness of Yuvi, Dravid and Kaif.

Actually India already won the game after Sachin made 50. It was an unusual innings from Sachin because he doesn't really attack until he's well set, his mindset was similar to Brian Lara in mood while batting in tests. Pakistani bowlers set very attacking fields in first 10 overs but they weren't expecting Sachin to play so many shots so early, I think that was where the game was won.

 

Apart from that 98, the only other time where Sachin was unusually playing too many shots freely was his 169 vs South Africa in 1996.

It's a weak Pak bowling. Both Akram and Waqar were past their best.

I think his 163 vs NZ is quite underrated. He was literally toying with the bowling that day. If not for the injury we probably would have seen the first double that day
