Pick your 12 for most conditions!

Posted

You can’t filter these by stats. Kapil Dev’s average as a one man army cannot be compared to the current attack with all the necessary support.

Steve Waugh IIRC scored 1-2 100s throughout his career and we have someone like Babar Azam already having 10 100s or something.

Kohli or even guys like Rohit and Dhawan have 100s for the taking once they play out the new ball. 2 new balls may increase the challenge for a couple of overs at the start in helpful conditions  but  2 relatively newer balls in the middle with the new rules, I am sure some players from the recent past like SRT,Lara,Ponting or even guys like Jayasuriya, Kallis,M.Waugh etc would have scored a lot more 100s then they ended up with

yeah, points such as par scores have to be factored in .... Someone like Gavaskar could average 60-70 in this era :dontknow:

Sir Jadeja in odis lol.  KL Rahul needs to make his spot in the X1 conformed first before making it to ATG X1.  Azhar (obviously overlooked for obvious reasons so understand),Ganguly, Dravid are all ahead. Also can play Gambhir at 3 and Kohli at 4.

Kohli

Yuvi

Dhoni/Dravid

Kapil

Harbhajan/Agarkar

Kumble

Zak

Bumrah

If I pick Dada ahead of Gambhir I will then bring Dravid in as Dada will be my captain.

Dhoni pretty much for the entire 2nd career played Dravid type consolidating knocks anyway and Dravid in his 2nd half played a lot more clutch and attacking knocks with proper strokeplay.

Funny though I have room for only one of Dravid and Dhoni :giggle: obviously in tests both would play.

Based on a variety of factors including a) numbers, b) era, c) approach, and d) having watched them play

  • Rohit - Slotted in for his overall record but could turn out to be a sitting duck against ATG attacks of WI, Aus, SA, and NZ.
  • Sehwag - Ind's highest SR top order player. Has played some incredible innings in tough conditions as well such as in NZ (2002?).
  • Tendulkar - A consistent top order batsman in most conditions and against most attacks.
  • Kohli - A run machine and great when batting second (Probably shows that he likes it when the equation is clearly laid out). Though not too confident about his batting vs. ATG attacks consisting of high quality swing bowling therefore at #4, where he bats in tests.
  • Yuvi - Utility player, big hitter, can bowl too, and excellent fielder as well.
  • Dhoni - A great finisher.
  • Kapil Dev - Though his batting avg does not do him justice. Among the best batsmen that I saw esp. vs good bowling attacks in all formats. Good enough to play in the top order and average much higher.
  • Irfan - In for his ability to bat, bowl, and field well. Also brings in the left arm bowling angle. A competitive cricketer at his peak.
  • Kuldeep - To provide x factor to the 11.
  • Shami - A wicket taking option.
  • Bumrah - A good all round bowler. Though needs to go for wkts more.
  • 12th man: Raina - for his fielding, batting and utility bowling.

Batting order can be flexible. Rohit and Sehwag are given opening duties as they open in tests as well .... Kuldeep is the lone specialist spinner as the 11 has Yuvi and Sehwag too. If a 2nd specialist spinner is required, he can come in place of Irfan .... India has done well in major tournaments when it has a bunch of ARs playing.

I would put the Ind ODI AT11 in the bottom half of the table along with AT11 teams of Eng, Pak, and SL. The top half will have WI, Aus, SA, and NZ.  The games among SA, NZ, Ind, Eng, Pak, and SL could be competitive to varying degrees.

Agarkar or Srinath over Shami in ODis

Rest pretty much I agree.

I knw KL has only played 30 games but as OP says your XI means my choice. I srsly feel KL is the batsman who completes this lineup.

In other thread that im creating im mostly picking azhar, gambhir, sehwag, ajay jadeja acc to opposition considering the required logic of playing decent number of games.

Shami stats are best n wud have beem even more better had he played with rules that agarkar n srinath played coz of the old ball. Shami is a geniune wkt taker. But agarkar n srinath wud be in my squad definately.

Ganguly- where wud he bat ?? Im not a fan of changing position of rohit, sachin or kohli at all. Those 3 became beast batting at those positions so use them to their fullest potential . Acc to ur line up u fit ganguly at 3, now my logic is ganguly wont be as good at 3 as kohli is, kohli wont be as effective at 4 as he is at 3...so why?? Had i had to make an adjustment for some like ponting or viv i wud have thought . Kohli game is best suited for no.3 ....he is my best batsman n ill use him where he is at best.

Plus when ever i make ODI sides i look for 2 things in a player running between wkts n fielding ...in both aress ganguly wasnt great. So if given a choice ill for dhawan ...dhawan is very underrated.

Dravid - i liked him but i want outright match winners. Ill have him as options but not 1st choice. Even though admire n say he over achieved  but when other options are avl why not look at them.

Sir jadeja is the kind of player which is very tempting. every finger spinner suffered due rules change in field change n 2 new balls doesnt make them bad. He n ashwin were doing well till that rule fcked all fingers spinners in LOI. Players like jadeja are good if used well.

I prefer batting depth till #8 unless there is a world 11 level specialist bowler to chose from. Usually, the difference in quality of a specialist bowler (from national level ATG bowlers) slotted at #8 and a bowler who can bat too slotted at 8 is not huge

Teams such as Aus (Lillee, McGrath, Starc, Lee, and Warne) and WI (Garner, Holding, Ambrose, Walsh, and Marshall) have that kind of luxury to slot a specialist bowler at 8 (as the bowler is good enough to win a game with the ball and the batting also strong enough or reliant on a few key players to not miss relative batting depth)

4 bowlers & Ganguly + Sehwag + Yuvi + Sachin as 5th-6th bowlers can work in a few games but do you plan to use this combination permanently? If you were to consider a 5th bowler or a bowling AR, who would it be?

they were part timers n if its modern rules they wont stand a chance, part timers start to loose control after a point
