afan Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 So Im guessing a lot of Indians would want to see him in the pinnacle of Test Captaincy. Ok so purely from Test Captaincy record perspective, there are 4 guys ahead of him in terms of wins -Graeme Smith- 53 wins (1.8 win/loss ratio) -Ricky Ponting - 48 wins (3.0 win/loss ratio) -Steve Waugh - 41 wins (4.55 win/loss ratio) -Clive Lloyd - 36 wins (3.0 win/loss ratio) -Virat Kohli - 33 wins (2.75 win/loss ratio) I dont think VK can better his win/loss ratio over Steve Waugh, but on winning another 20 games he is most likely to surpass Ponting W/L. So guys what are your views? Will he win another 21 as captain? If so , how many more games will it take to win those 21? Is he going to claim the GOAT Test Captain?
Nikola Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 He will be captain till next worldcup so if he plays 30-35 odd tests till next worldcup then he has good chance. But team will be on decline in few years when ishant/shami/ashwin will no longer be at peak. Even pujara and kohli will be on decline.

Agree, there will be these challenges of the ageing middle order and also the tiring fast bowling unit. Hence it is all the more essential for Kohli to push his agenda and help Shaw, Agarwal and Gill to cement their places in the Test 11. Also he needs to look at the bowling resources...The Ranji ones are not that popular, but then you never know who might just break through
Clarke Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 There was a comparison of win % across all formats where Virat had a stunning record, it was above 60% and not far from Steve Waugh's record. When the eff will he bring a major trophy home Ponting was the highest, around 68% IIRC.
rtmohanlal Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 Waugh, Lloyd & Ponting had series wins in lot of abroad countries. They were not like 'being unbeatable at home', defeating lower ranked teams abroad and 'failing miserably to stronger teams abroad'.

Some say that he was not able to inspire the players to play at his level, some say he never got the team he wanted due to the Zonal selections in those days. However this should never take away what he has done as a player, leadership is another matter altogether
