Also Australian pitches now days are absolute pancakes. Every country comes up with spicy pitches from time to time. Never seen that in Australia during Smith's career.

Started as a bowling AR, was wasted in first few years. Averaging close to 75 since he became a specialist batsman, ICC peak rating 947 which is 2nd highest of all time.

What he did in 2019 Ashes after 1 year ban, 774 runs in 7 innings (missed a test) proving that his previous away Ashes tally of 500+ was no fluke, took back #1 spot from Virat in just a couple of tests....who would have thought?

That's why Smith, IMO, is a once in many many generation test cricketer.
