2 questions I would like to ask

1.) Is Viv Richards at his prime the most perfect batsman the game has ever seen? I think neither Tendulkar nor Bradman had that sort of command over their game like Viv at his prime.

 

2.) Were Pakistani fast bowlers in 80s/90s generally mediocre with the new ball while being the best in the world with old ball? I've heard Ramiz Raja talking about how Pak bowlers found it difficult to control the swing of the new ball during his playing days.

Not perfect (showmanship has its flaws), the most devastating. The numbers he had in his era, so far ahead of his peers, put him in this joke ODI era and we'll see 60 avg and 130 SR.

Look at the scorecards against Eng/NZ. Team would be 180/2, then suddenly 220 ao. Organized cheating, Imran was the pioneer. Check out Benaud's commentary with Aaqib Javed bowling in Eng....'Whoa steady on' with camera focussing on the act for a good minute or two.

Pity that he missed his best years cos of Packer. Him and Greg Chappell would have far better numbers while Sunny, Botham would have less flattering stats.

He wAs the perfect Adonis cricket batsman . You had the domineering walk to the wicket , then his shirt fitted his muscles neck, his short sleeve Jersey bulged with chest muscles, his trousers fitted perfectly , his thigh pad looked perfect and his pads moulded his legs , boots a perfect fit on feet , everything looked like it was painted on him. Believe me this destroyed bowlers before they even bowled to him and after scoring 180+ he wAs still looking as perfect as he did walking out. I was very lucky to see this Top Gun who's motto wAs dominate and entertain,  averages are for other people to think about .

Was Viv very good, yes, I would not call him the best ever even in odis. He was best on his day but this notion that he would average 60 is ridiculous. To average 60 you need to be consistent and boring that was never his game.He had the strongest team and best bowlers on his side. So he nevr face the might of his own team's bowling.

 

He was as vulnerable to swing, spin and seam as any other batsman. He was WI best batsman but that team was the best team more due their bowling.He sure did have ability to take on fast bwolers but I really doubt he would have dominated that fearsome foursome.

Was the gap really that big between West Indies fast bowlers and bowlers from SENA/Pak countries in that era? I've always heard about the argument that Viv would have struggled against WI pacers.

I was watching Ramiz Raja's video on Bumrah's hat trick and he went on length to describe how difficult it is to get a hat trick with new ball and how Pakistani fast bowlers never liked the new ball because they couldn't control the swing when they bowled at high pace (he never mentioned the names of the bowlers ).

Viv's twin fifties at Adelaide in 1981 always stands out in my memory. Lillee cut down his pace but he was bowling perfect leg cutters and the kind of shots Viv played against him through the covers was probably batting perfection, I'm certain that Tendulkar or Lara would have been defensive in their approach because those leg cutters were hard to score runs against!

As per video he looks to be bashing English trundlers . I have not seen him live but as per video I don't see a single bowler who is more than 85 mph. Also there is no evidence that pitches where he scored these runs were ultra swinging or fast bouncy pitches and there were no flat pitches at that time. We can say he was different than others in his style of play as many during those time considered playing a long inning has more worth than playing swashbuckling inning. Though there was no field restriction but if you observe fielder during those time were very attcking even in ODIs, ODIs field positioning was like test. Also his record against Lee and Thompson which were fastest bowler during his time was not that great I suppose. He was like sehwag with better record in sena given he played more in English conditions like county and international so that is understandable why he was good in sena.

I don’t think there has been any bowling unit which is better than them in history of cricket.Viv would have hard time scoring consistently against them.

No bowling comes close. Were some bowlers better individually, maybe but as a bowling unit . It is not worth even close they are by far the best unit.
