Tyagi's plus points ----

 

----  Extra pace

----  Very Tall ... around 6'3"

----  Hits thd deck hard and gets good bounce

----  Has the aggressive attitude of a true fast bowler. 

----  Has a nasty and accurate bumper

----  Has a good and quick yorker

----  Gets outswing

----  Can seam the ball

----  Is a wicket taker as a result of the above

----  Seems like a quick learner.

 

 

Weaknesses ----

 

---- Bowls too wide of the stumps. Should come a bit closer. Angling in slightly and then seaming away can be so dangerous to batters. Angling in a lot may mean too many leg stump balls.

 

---- The steps in his run up have become too long after the lockdown and this is messing with his rhythm at times.

 

---- Needs to improve the consistency of his length balls 

 

 

He has the potential to be the next top quality fast bowler from India after Bumrah and Shami. Let's see how he progresses.

Reasons why the team should take the risk of playing him in Brisbane:

 

1. Suitable pitch

2. Novelty factor (although SPDS knows him well from RR stint)

3. Fresh body and mind - something we are short on right now.

4. Nothing to lose here - put it all on the line.  Big tasks call for big risks.

 

Just tell him that this match performance will not go on his resume and let him rip.  2-3 top order wickets to rattle them a bit is all we need.  Damn, I hope they do it.

Porel and prasidh Krishna too. Both have serious potential. All tall too.

Tyagi's bowling is very different from Siraj, Shardul, Natarajan.

 

Much higher release points and much higher pace.

 

We need this variety with Bumrah injured. Saini has the pace but lacks the steep bounce and mental aggression of Tyagi. ( while Bumrah has it )

Porel's issue is lack of pace after his injury.

They have injured and removed Shami and Jaddu.

 

We have injured and removed Pucovski and Conway but both in practice matches. 

 

Need to return the favour in test matches too.

I don’t think I have ever seen Porel fast even before injury or whenever I have seen him trundle people have made the same excuse for him like in the u-19 WC. Don’t rate him very highly. Has some skills though but we have better bowlers than him in that department.

In his first prominent Ranji season, Porel was sharp.

 

But I don't like the current version.

good analogy but more like a Swiss Army knife . Multi dimensional cricketer. I am going to use that nickname  for him going forward

Tyagi certainly has the ability to swing the ball both ways (from what I hv seen).    Not sure about his ability to bowl long spell without compromising speed.   That's why test cricket is challenging.

Great point. In the past we had bowlers who wouldn’t be able to sustain pace or smart bowlers like Zak or even Ishant who can up their pace at will and save their energy according to the pitch and conditions but our success has been our bowlers maintain the same pace even in 3rd and 4th spells. That stamina comes from playing a lot of cricket along with other fitness regimen. Not sure how many long spells these young prospects can keep up with.

Consider this a one-off test and blood him.  Tell him even 10-0-100-1 will not count against him as long as that 1 is SPDS :-)!!

3-4 over spells.  Go all out.  Siraj and Saini can do the heavy lifting.
