His words are championed in SM/MSM by liberal journalists as a sign of approval of dissent. A bail hearing where bail was granted, he needn't have chastised with some heavy words that are out of place. He could see the motivation for the case from the prosecution. Disha was not just dissenting, she was hobnobbing with India's enemies. So, he can't say that GoI is going after those dissenting. Already his words are rung in WaPo by the likes of Barkha. He is playing into their playbook.
