BacktoCricaddict Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 I am talking about Gill, Natarajan, Sundar and Thakur. Gill looks like he is here for the long haul, although he has struggled a bit after the high of Australia. But he is in a position of need and there don't seem to be any other openers knocking the door down to compete with him. But I can't help but feel that Natarajan and Thakur will be discarded like they never happened. Sundar is younger and may get more chances but it doesn't appear that he will get a long rope. Although off-topic, I want to mention Rahane here, too. Brilliant captaincy coupled with a timely knock that set the tone for the rest of the series, and now everyone is calling for his head. I can't see how that series would've gone the way it did without his tactical and man-management skills. As a fan, I feel especially grateful to these guys for providing the absolute best moments ever for Indian cricket, and it is disturbs me to think that the odds are in favor of them fading away into obscurity. It's a tough world out there. Norman and nevada 1 1
zen Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Many of those guys were back ups so it may be difficult to find a spot. Sundar will get a few chances for the utility that he brings. It is up to him to improve his game further and take the opportunities. Gill is already identified as one of the future mainstays so will continue to get chances unless some chinks in his armour are identified. New players may appear like hot properties when their game is not analyzed by the opposition. Then the phase 2 begins where they would work on further improving their games.
ShoonyaSifar Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Not exactly newbies but add Rohit, Pujara, Vihari, Siraj and Pant to that list as well. Kohli will make sure each of the heroes of that series are discarded at the first available opportunity. He cannot do much to Pujara and Pant right now but will wait for the right time. Rohit obviously has become untouchable now but remember how he was kept away from the Aus tour squad and questions raised on his commitment. Vihari already has lost his test spot. Umesh Yadav returned to the team immediately after injury, Vihari is still sitting outside despite being fit. Gill has made very obvious attempts to fit in to Kohli's coterie, so may survive for sometime. Only option for those named above will be to submit themselves completely to the Kohli dictatorship. nevada 1

So you reckon? Is this true? We do play much better as a team under rahane. I think kohli should focus on being a pure batsman. But then why would kohli listen to fans. Vihari got injured,is he fit now?
Gollum Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 (edited) Gill and Sundar will be mainstay for another 10-15 years. Impossible to keep talent like Gill down for too long and Sundar is too versatile to miss out......if managed properly latter can even become T20 MVP by year end but I think they will underutilize his batting as part of top 3 sahyog yojana. Nattu will have his utility in next 2 T20 WCs and beyond that, it will be up to him. He is already 30 I think. Thakur will play a few white ball matches here and there, that's it. Don't think he will be managed well, will be good for English conditions but I fear he may not even make the squad. Edited February 28, 2021 by Gollum Vijy 1
